If it burns, so be it. My interest is to deter the behavior.

Free speech is not always pretty. But when we let the government decide what speech is permissible, we are no longer free. Reasonable time, place and manner, and classification of speech for different levels of scrutiny are permissible. But political speech cannot in any way be prohibited, and only regulated to protect public safety. Like you can burn a flag, but not in a forest during a drought. That includes commies, KKK, Tea Party - everybody.
