Where is the conservatism and common sense in a law that affects so few?

Transgendered people using the restroom, of what ever sex they identify with, is not a new occurrence. It has been happening all this time.

Only because of a small handful of cases where children because of today's more accepting climate, feel safer in coming out earlier, has this become a topic.

Out of thousands of schools with millions of kids, what small number of kids actually are transgendered? It's miniscule.

How many cases of women being raped in the bathroom by transgendered men are there annually? Obviously if there was some epidemic, it would be something to consider. That is not the case, however.

It is simply politicians pandering to the right. It will cost so much money to implement and ultimately have the same effect on revenue that it did in Carolina. Not to mention, almost impossible to enforce.

The only way to enforce it would be to violate everyone's privacy. I am not sure if the new Trump supreme court will consider LBGT rights. Pretty sure they will rule croch checks as unreasonable searches.

Last but not least, businesses are moving to Texas right now. Want to see them, and the jobs they bring, leave?

Transgender bathroom rights are a sideshow act to pander to the mentally ill and another way for the government to intrude upon the lives of people. Believe it or not people can and do disagree with ideas they consider to be harmful. If people don't want to live in Texas because they don't get everything they want there's 49 other states to live in. Seems California has decided that making it illegal to arrest a minor for soliciting sex is a good idea. Will be interesting to see how that works out. That law will be very attractive to a certain segment of the population and encourage them to move to California.

grean - there's a ton of common sense in what you're saying - I hope I'm not the only one who caught it...

It is LGBT people who have caused this issue - by submarining their own cause.

If this was really about "The right to use whatever bathroom a transgender person identifies with...", then (you grean) pointed out the truths:
  • This has been happening for quite a while
See, I'll bet - before Transgender people voluntarily gave up their privacy (by shouting "look at me! Look at me! I'm a Transgender Female who identifies as male and I'm going to go in the men's room!")... nobody really cared or even noticed. Unless ("they") were in baby doll sox with a plaid school girl skirt standing up trying to piss in a urinal... most guys wouldn't have given a second glance.

And really, if you are a girl, in baby doll socks and a plaid school girl skirt - what are you now, a "trans-gender-trans-gender" like some kind of "double negative that's actually a positive" just so you can be hip and say you're transgender?

Think about this... MINIMAL... slacks, shirt... walks in to men's room... walk to WHERE? (a stall probably). Business. Comes out, washes their hands, and leaves. Most guys never make any eye contact at all or speak to each other except (excuse me) in a restroom...

...so unless you're transgender and screaming about it... grean is right.

it's been going on all the time (and nobody noticed or cared)

it's only when the transgenders decided to give up their privacy (by pointing THEMSELVES out and saying "LOOK AT ME") that now people are noticing...

"Oh... you're NOT a guy? Then you should use the Ladies' room"

...same with transgender guys - hey, there's many that if I didn't know, I'd just assume "girl"... so unless they give up their privacy and point it out, nobody is really noticing.

(again unless you're going to argue "Anyone can dress any way they want and you have to go by their mind"... because then it's impossible to tell perverts from Trans people
(Are you a PERV? Nope, I'm TG in my mind... cop leaves.... whew!)
That's why if TG people give up their privacy (as they've done) the only solution is separate bathrooms (single stalls) or we all just say "F-it" and there's one big bathroom hall for everyone.

So how will this be enforced? I have already volunteered to be GI (genitalia inspector) at the bathroom of my choice. I see another department for the bureaucracy, DGI, (Department of Genitalia Inspections) on the horizon. I hope you see the absurdity of this.

If the purpose of all this is to protect women and children from perverts, then I propose something that just might actually work. The next time a pervert is actually caught assaulting a child or woman in the bathroom simply take him out behind the barn and shoot him. But then I did come of age a long time ago when acceptable solutions were much simpler. I also hope you see the absurdity of this.

The only thing is that it is not adult trangendered people who are saying "look at me". Highschool students, in one case that went before the supreme court, a biological girl who identifies as a boy, who wish to use facilities of the gender that they identify as.

There are a ton of sensitive issues.

In the above case, I would actually worry that a locker room full of horny 17 & 18 year old young men more than a couple wouldn't give a damn if the girl thought she was a boy. I don't know if being ogled isn't worse than the uncomfort felt by dressing out in the locker room that matched the biolgy. I'm no shrink though.

Also, while we all talked tough at that age, some boys really aren't ready to see a naked girl, even one that i.ds as a boy. Even if they are, their parents may not want then to be exposed to that yet.

Absolutely in these cases a separate locker room would be the easiest. I have no idea if it's the best idea. I do know treating the kids as pariahs isn't the right move either.

I work (not directly) but with a lady (genetically born female) that is becoming a man.
It was a little shocking at first but we have all since accepted it.
Plus, our company has a very strong policy regarding embracing diversity, racial, sexual...all forms. Of course large corporations wisely do not want to expose themselves to potential lawsuits for any kind of harassment or discrimination.
Word is that we will soon have 3 types of restrooms instead of the standard 2.
The change in her looks is dramatic. Her body shape, her voice and she even has some facial hair even though she shaves, there is now a shadow. I promise you that I'll never know if she has a sex change operation but for all intents and purposes, she is a man. She has even changed her first name.
I guess I should no longer refer to her as a "she." Sorry, old habit.
I don't know which restroom he currently uses and I don't care.
However, if he were in public, I think it would be very disturbing for him to walk into a ladies restroom at this point. It would cause more harm than good.
Perverts and sexual deviants don't really belong in any restroom unless their only purpose is to relieve themselves.
Agreeing with everyone here, I don't see the need to waste taxpayer dollars for our legislature to spend time on this issue.
The law that should be enforced is that it is illegal to use a restroom for any other purpose than intended. Do your business, wash your fucking hands and leave.
Maybe that law is already on the books. If so, that's enough.

Many of us would remember Larry "wide stance" Craig. The US Senator arrested at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport for lewd conduct.

There is also the case of Bob Allen, a Florida state Representative who was arrested in a bathroom at a public park. He was convicted of solicitation for prostitution. He offered to pay an undercover officer $20 to perform oral sex on the officer.

Then there is the case of Jon Hinson, a Congressman from Mississippi. Hinson was arrested in a men's room in the House of Representatives when he was caught giving oral sex to a male employee of the Library of Congress.

There were a few other cases that I am aware of that involved local government officials that didn't garner national attention.

I have not read or heard of a case involving a transgendered person. To be clear, I have heard of cases where people, particularly men, who claimed to be transgendered going into women's restrooms. To my knowledge, none of the perpetrators were confirmed to be transgendered or just a pervert dressed in drag to get into the women's restroom. But the point I was trying to make was that transgendered people are not the problem.

'Ayyy now we're getting somewhere. While it doesn't prove what was said earlier, we have this:

Quote:
"None of those jurisdictions have [sic] seen a rise in sexual violence or other public safety issues due to nondiscrimination laws. Assaulting another person in a restroom or changing room remains against the law in every single state.”
Key here would be "rise", though.

I believe one of those did throw some numbers. I think that in addition to the number though, that fact that other assualt support organizations are rallying against the lawd also says something.
