Listen to B Three. Every bit of her advice is sound.

Whether you do it yourself, or through an intermediary, she needs to know this will go one of two ways:

1. She goes away now and she’s none the worse for her misadventure.
2. She fires off her best shot, and you’ll do the same. Your best shot results in her going to jail.

Do. Not. Give. Her. Any. Money. There is zero chance this goes away if you do.

Best of luck. I’m pulling for you.

So you shared your real name? That was another unfortunate rookie mistake, especially since you're a public figure.

I did tell her that what she is doing is blackmail and that if she went through with any of her threats, I would contact the police.

Like B Three wrote, have a lawyer call her and tell her the seriousness of the crime she's committing. That will scare her a lot more than you saying it to her.

All I can say is that I hope everyone will remember to be diligent and don't let your small head do the thinking. Trust no one regardless. Coming from me it may sound like a joke but I'm serious.

Cease and desist letter of harassment w/certified confirmation. Don’t get the police involved, because they may question other family members. Keep it on the low end. It’s probably empty threats from her. I hear it all the time from people saying they get a lawyer, it’s just BS from people acting tough

Her telling your wife you have been paying to fuck her on the side if you do not give her money to buy a car is really not a police matter, they will probably tell you it is a lawyer matter for extortion.

If that works, then good for you. BUT, you will have a much higher chance if this information comes from a lawyer. And it is more solid proof on your side.

She needs to know that HER threats are already a CRIME. And that you will go to the police if they continue, NOT only when she outs you.

That is why having an attorney involved is paramount.

Empty threats, perhaps...but why risk it. It's a fucking felony, why would you not want to act tough?

Extortion is a FELONY in Texas if the amount demanded is over $50! It is NOT a civil matter. The police WILL take it seriously.

Wrong. It’s a criminal matter.

The only issue with acting too tough is that the blackmailer might get so defeated that she decides to tell the OP's wife anyway just as a form of revenge.

Say the OP gets both a lawyer and the police involved and the blackmailer thinks that she's going to get into legal trouble or perhaps even get incarcerated because of her threats alone...well that might make the blackmailer so angry that she will go ahead and tell the wife anyway. After all, the lawyers and police are now involved and she knows she's fucked..so why not fuck up the OP too?

I agree with you that the OP should have a lawyer scare her but the lawyer should also give her an escape line: that if she leaves the OP and his family alone, she will not be punished in any way shape or form.

Is there a lawyer in the house? As the question was asked, then immediately the room was silent with no one replying.

Staff Edit - B3

You can't advertise in this forum and I must say, choosing a thread about blackmail to try to do so, is...well...bizarre. If you have questions, let me know and I can help direct you.

A good lawyer would do exactly that: you always want to spell out the better alternative. In this case, her walking away.
