I went that route, too, for a while. Then I admitted defeat.
What seems to have helped me the most was going for the upgrade to a box with DVR. That seems to be a slightly better box and I've had less problems with it.
When it acts up, pulling the plug overnight seems to have a better effect than a fast reboot. And demanding a service call can help, too, but those guys who show up always bad-mouth whoever worked on the system last, then make a bunch of changes that the next guy will bad-mouth later.

I read that "Piers" isn't his real first name and that his birth certificate actually says that his real name is "Docks."

I have the HD DVR box and it sucks... I think it is just the cable in Webster. I didn't move from when I first moved to Webster to where I am now. And my cable still does the same as I org. listed....
I have paid 50 plus for HDMI cables... tried different components in my TV and I know 100% it isn't my tv bc I had a TV tech savy person pick out the best of the best for TV's... told him price wasn't a problem just wanted the most for my money
I still have been lazy and haven't called the office to see if for 100% sure I can get Direct TV but most likely will make the switch.
I am however, gonna bitch to TW bc my mom is paying $19.99 plus tax for internet only and I know I am paying $30 plus for the same speed internet. It's bullsh*t!! I swear TW and NYG&E are out to rob people. They are all scam artist in my mind!!!
Blah and it wouldn't surprise me if Piers wasn't his real name... I just love him idk why, something about him. Right now I am watching America's Got Talent and I can't help but still love him on this. Maybe it's how he presents himself?

It's actually "Piers," I was just trying to be funny. He was born "Piers Stefan O'Meara." His father passed away when Piers was only 1, his mother remarried, his stepfather renamed him "Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan."

I switched to DTV recently mainly for the free football package and have not noticed much difference from TW other than you cannot get YNN. Picture quality is just as good, it has gone out a few times recently with the heavy rain but usually no more than a few minutes. TW cable goes out from time to time to for no reason in good weather so I don't think its that big a deal. I am saving about $60/month by switching to DTV and I get the NFL ticket free this year.
I had the same problems like you Brooke, the HD channel would stop working or the sound would drop off.

I've had TW cable, Internet and phone for years. Occasionally you have to reboot the TV cable box (happened a couple days ago) or reboot the modem for Internet and once in awhile the phone went dead but that has been rare.
DTV has HD 1080i while TW still has 720p but this doesn't matter to me and have been happy with TW.

I am a DVR queen.... so when I have free time, I watch everything and anything I have recorded.
While getting ready in the morning I put it on CNN or MSNBC... occasionally I'll watch Regis and Kelly... Reg is the man!!!

TW or DirectTV ...
Hi Brooke,
I have been using DirecTV for the past 5yrs and have had a really good experience. I have moved a couple times and their move package (free) is fantastic. I have short outages only when the weather gets really crazy, for example I was out for about 15 minutes when that storm came through last weekend and occasionally I need to clear the dish when we get a wet snow that sticks to the dish (maybe 2x per year).
The quality is far superior to Time Warner and the features and menu navigation are much more intuitive. I'm just a happy customer and get nothing from this, other than Time Warner losing another dissatisfied customer. I still use TW for Broadband because it's so much faster that DSL.
Whatever you do, stay away from DISH ... they are a poorly run organization and have a history of eliminating channels while holding you to your contract.
Hope this helps :-)
~ S
