We can left-right/Red-Blue this situation forever. In the coming years, historians and political science academics will do just that. But there must be political settlement soon or Western civilization, to include Russia, will become subjugated by the Chinese.

I believe that the Russian invasion effort could have been decisively checked in the early days and weeks of 2022 if the Western Powers, and I mean the USA as well as the European nations, had gone all-in to help Ukraine and oppose Russia with substantial material help and training. ut we didn't. But that opportunity has passed.

At this point, none of that mattress any longer. Fault finding now is not productive. We must face the ongoing situation as it is today and must deal with that.

Russia has always held the cards for a long game win if the game was left to be played out.

Every thing else stems from that. Putin didn’t want the country cozying up to the EU and the majority of the Ukrainians did.

The invasion of Crimea and the full invasion of Ukraine stems from their desire to keep Ukraine from breaking away from Russian influence.
