When Trump was asked about the truckers not having work, and ports running at half capacity,
he said, "That means we lose less money."

Fortunately for Trump, he doesn't have to explain that.

As for the reality denying usual suspects here, manufacturing is coming back, there is no recession, and your world is collapsing around you as your hope for the failure of the country comes to naught. Leftists complaining about insults? BWAHAHAHAHA!

First of all it’s way to soon to say what the long term effects of this trade war really are.

I would wager that the recession is coming but not here yet. Historically we will not know we are in a recession until we’re well into it. Past experience tells us that manufacturing will likely not come back to our shores but will rather just shuffle around the globe to countries with low labor costs and low tariff barriers.

Trade wars usually just end up moving money around. Manufacturing rarely moves back to its origin unless the process becomes much more efficient. The reason for that is because no one wants to invest in a manufacturing facility if the only thing keeping it profitable is a tariff that could be changed from one administration to the next.

I’m guessing that you are the one denying reality but we’ll not be able to tell until a few years from now.

quite right! it is too soon to see how this will shake out. if Trump levels the tariff issue he accomplished the game. as it is, he's already secured commitments of new US investment by both foreign and domestic corporations. if both fair trade and reinvestment in US manufacturing pans out this is good for the US, right??

What was the game? He continues to say the US is going to make money on the tariffs, but he had a fit when he thought Amazon was going to show how much more the tariff added to products price to the consumer...see? The US can't compete in manufacturing, labor costs is way too high. Or it's not humans manufacturing. The only really significant investment in the US I can recall since he took office was for Datacenters....to fuel AI. That's Artificial Intelligence and not steak sauce for the Drump education fans.

Bullshit. There are less products imported now because of the tariffs. It's not worth it for many businesses that heavily depend on manufacturing in China to have reasonable margins to even bother ordering goods with these tariffs. Of course there are going to be less trucks out there because there is less inventory to deliver... that's called common fucking sense, Mr. TDS.

Amen.

They should go BCD and review the fine ladies here and chill out.

Is there really "disposable income" when the average consumer is racking up tons of credit card debt? And if we truly had "disposable income", what if we put some of that money into more investments, so more Americans would have a diversified financial portfolio outside of government entitlements.

I agree that America becoming a manufacturing powerhouse again (at least with significant human labor) is a pipe dream. I personally know engineers who are working on robotics to realistically make those dreams 0% ever to happen again.

None of this changes the fact that America has an overconsumption problem, and the societal impact it has had (obesity, mental illness, lesser appreciation for non-monetary things/ideals, etc.).
