Mr BadBoy has a point, as oblique as it seems. The lady has an ad that is all in Spanish. I don't know if you were surprised by her not being able to communicate in english or not, but it is a wise decision on your part to not see any of the ladies that don't speak english.
As to the comments regarding the aqusition of english, or by extension, any other language, I think it is a very wise thing to do. I am certainly not fluent in another language besides english, but I see the value in being multilingual.
I am not arguing that a society doesn't need the cohesion that is established by a dominant language, in our case english. What I am saying is that being multilingual lends a richness to life that is otherwise missing. I have family members who are conversant in a couple of different languages. My father spoke four differnt languages fluently, the different folks that would show up at the house as I was growing up were great.
Our country is an extraordinary melting pot of many different peoples and cultures. It is this panolopy of languages and cultures that makes life interesting for me. It is one of the reasons that I chosen to live in a city as opposed to waking down a trail through the wilderness with a backpack on my back, which is where, to be honest, I would often rather be.
