I don't see it so much as what the folks are saying, but how Watters approaches what they're saying and the conclusions he makes. I honestly think only Tapper really says anything of substance. What he says is thought provoking, but he doesn't substantiate what he says and it doesn't automatically change the last four years into something terrible. Tapper is there to sell his book, not speak for all Democrats.

I also don't see other outlets mock and belittle this much.

Watters begins his segment saying, "Democrats are going full MAGA, Blue Maga. No, seriously, the Democrats are asking themselves, quote, "Could Blue MAGA revitalize the party?" and flashed the title of an article in the Deseret News. The newspaper is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is known for its socially conservative, family-oriented editorial stance. It also reported that a large majority of Latter-day Saint voters cast their ballot for Trump.

"Could ‘Blue MAGA’ revitalize the Democratic Party?" is the title of the article, not a question asked by Democrats. It's a headline, not a summary.

The article is about Ro Khanna, a California Democrat who coined the term Blue Maga and uses it "half-jokingly" or "light-heartedly" to advocate for a "progressive capitalism" or "economic patriotism" agenda—specifically investing in American manufacturing, technology, and jobs in the Rust Belt.

Khanna has framed this approach as a way to "fight" the Republican MAGA movement by adopting a similarly strong, populist, economic agenda rather than just criticizing it.

The article also says that "Khanna isn’t the only one preaching Blue MAGA. His message aligns with the one delivered by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., during the 'Fight Oligarchy Tour'." Again, this is the writer's words. When has anyone from MAGA ever said "fight the oligarchy"?

Watters goes on to say, "We hear they are making blue hats that say Make California Great Again and swapping out The Village People for Stevie Wonder. I guess if you just can't beat them, you join them."

Nowhere in the article or anywhere else in his segment is this mentioned. Watters just made it up. I might accept the statement as a joke if he didn't say "if you can't beat them, join them."

Watters presents opinions, not news, so he can say pretty much anything he wants until it crosses the line into damaging falsehood.

Keep in mind that this is the guy who texted Greg Gutfeld on December 5, 2020, a month and half before the Capitol riot writing, "Think about how incredible our ratings would be if Fox went ALL in on STOP THE STEAL."

Fox News did just that and has so far lost close to $1 billion when they settled after a judge ruled that the statements Fox News made about the 2020 elections were false during the suit brought against them by Dominion Voting.

Another defamation lawsuit against Fox by Smartmatic for $2.7 billion is ongoing and should go to trial in 2026. Newsmax and One America Network (OAN) have already settled the defamation cases brought against them.

There's an argument to be made that Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN helped rile up enough people to allow the Capitol riot to occur.

Watters makes broad, unsubstantiated statements in the segment. The problem is that people may take what he says as if it's truth.

"...now they admit that we were right about everything?"

"They're all saying, 'You got us, we lied.'"

He's just misleading his viewers. Nothing in the segment substantiates these two statements.

He showed clips from a sportscaster interviewing Jake Tapper selling his book, which was recently published. Tapper rattled off Republican talking points and said four years of those were harmful, but did not define the harm.

Watters put words into Tapper's mouth, saying that Tapper said the Republicans were even right about lawfare. That's a broad statement. Tapper actually said that he found it "problematic when people run for prosecutor and promise to go after a specific politician."

This was clearly a reference to James Bragg and Leticia James, but he made no mention of the arguably more serious charges brought against Trump by Jack Smith, which Republicans also called lawfare.

When Bragg ran for office, he pledged to continue an ongoing investigation into the Trump Organization, which ended up with a conviction of criminal tax fraud in and a fine of $1.6 million December 2022.

Regardless of what Tapper thinks, Bragg was justified in his pledge.

Leticia James vowed to sue Trump, continue investigations started by her predecessors, and act as a check on his administration. This resulted in Trump being found liable for fraud and fined $500 million dollars. James may be guilty of grandstanding, but she was chasing valid accusations.

Trump appealed the verdict. The appeals court found the fine excessive and threw it out; however, the fraud verdict remained in place, as did the ban on Trump being an executive of any company in New York for three years.

Trump ended up retaliating against James months after he became President and had the DoJ go after her. The first US Attorney Trump appointed said he couldn't charge James because there wasn't enough evidence. Trump fired him and replaced him with an attorney who would. A judge found that the US Attorney was appointed illegally and threw the case out along with another retaliatory case against a perceived enemy of Trump, James Comey.

My favorite part of the segment was when Watters said, "They all told us Trump had an enemies list. I'm still waiting for the first arrest." He even references James Comey. That didn't age well.

That's how Republicans view lawfare---as witch hunts. It's only a witch hunt if you chase someone who is innocent.

Watters goes on to say, "It's been six months--half the party's like, 'Yup, we're all liars and deserved to lose' and the other half is taking the knee for George Floyd." Seriously, a statement like that is actually being used as part of an argument? No one said this.

He pretty much declares something and then shows a clip of people talking that don't support what he said. He actually mocks them. He also randomly said "Democrat power brokers" want "Rambo" (Rahm Emanuel) to be the next Democratic candidate, based upon what looks to be a random video call. Watters mockingly said Emanuel was "a short Jewish millionaire from Chicago and he's 65. I am sure the crowds will go wild."

Watters goes on to say, "Behind the scenes they're putting together a shadow cabinet." What? He gives no evidence or basis for saying this.

Then he says, "...and some of them still won't even say sorry for the shadow government."

Watters then shows a clip of Carolyn Leavitt talking about a Biden cover-up and that Jill Biden was complicit. Then he says that the Biden family lied to the country for four years and showed no remorse. He continues with a clip of the Tapper interview saying basically no one in the White House was saying they made a mistake about what had been happening. Again, Tapper's selling a book and he's just pushing stuff from his book.

Watter uses what he showed to support saying, "Democrats confessed they lied, but are saying they'd do it again. They say they prefer a President in a coma controlled by a shadow cabinet over Trump or any Republican. Democrats claim they're having a come to Jesus moment, but really they're just trying to sanitize the crime scene and sell books." Then he cuts back to Tapper who basically says he's not doing it for the money. Tapper's the only one trying to sell books. Watters goes on to mock Tapper.

There's no reason for Watters to say Democrats prefer a President in a coma over Trump or any Republican. Democrats ran with Harris, not Biden. He's bashing Democrats for the sake of bashing Democrats with a false statement.

Watters is misleading his viewers. He is in all seriousness promoting what's he's presented as being representative of all Democrats based upon one article in a socially conservative newspaper, the comments of Jake Tapper selling a book, a statement from Trump's press secretary (who is a documented liar---at a minimum she clearly said that foreign countries pay tariffs when they don't), and misrepresented clips of video. My fear is that his audience believes him.

Watters doesn't make the slam dunk he thinks he does with his populism vs abundance poll. There is a distinct difference between Democratic populism and Republican populism, primarily in who they identify as the "corrupt elite" and the focus of their grievances. Democratic populism (left-wing) targets economic inequality and corporations, while Republican populism (right-wing) focuses on cultural issues, national sovereignty, and immigration.

The segment is essentially propaganda, which "is the deliberate, systematic dissemination of biased, misleading, or one-sided information, including facts, rumors, or lies, designed to influence public opinion, emotions, attitudes, and behavior."

Watters concludes the segment by saying, "The country wants doers, people with common sense, and leaders who tell the truth, not people who lie to them and write tell-alls to make a quick buck. Do you know what the easiest way to make money in this business is? Tell the truth---from the beginning."

I can edit too:

"The country wants leaders who tell the truth."
"Not people who lie to them."
"Not people who <insert here> to make a quick buck."

On January 7, 2021, Jesse Watters described the actions of the rioters — smashing windows, spraying police with chemical agents, assaulting officers, looting and vandalism — as unacceptable and criminal.

On October 7, 2025, Watters said, "The Democrat reaction to January 6 was worse than January 6."

People died on January 6, 2021.

What changed?
Maybe it's because of Blackrock. Blackrock owns 14.6% of Tegna and 9.8% of Nexstar, so would seem to gain from the merger.

"BlackRock is navigating a complex relationship with the Trump administration, prioritizing business pragmatism over ideological alignment. While previously targeted by Republicans for "woke" ESG investing, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has built rapport with Trump through major, $22.8 billion investment deals, such as the Panama Canal project. In late 2025, BlackRock and its leadership have engaged in initiatives aligned with the administration's goals, such as matching employee contributions to "Trump accounts" for children's savings."
