I have a million pandora channels so I try to guess what the guy will like after I meet him. I do pretty well. But I've always preferred to have music on in the background.

I have to say though, most r&b turns me right off. I like drum and bass, deep and grindy. Male singers with high voices are panty drying.

Music isn't necessary IMO, and if it is playing, needs to be very quiet in the background, just loud enough so it isn't totally quiet.

No Rap crap for music, as that isn't music anyway.
