Actually if you really wish to be scared by something let's go back the show numbers and how math is used to predict behavior. This is only a small slice of the bigger picture. Issack Asimov ( for those of you who don't know he was a visionary science fiction writer in the modern era) wrote a number of books in a series called the foundation. His fictional character Hari Seldon was a mathematician who combined statistical analysis with psychology and history to form the science of psychohistory. In this science human actions, trends and overall behaviors could be predicted on a mass scale. And, more importantly directed or steered by government for their own good without their knowledge.
I would contend this has in fact become reality and we see evidence of this every day. And as with all things can be a tool to be misused on a mass scale.
