Why the knock on someone who rents? There are some very valid reasons to not being tied down to a mortgage. I can def relate on that end. I am just lucky that I will reap the benefits of having a house that is in a prime area when it's time to sell. Due to market conditions on my other house with spouse, we are upside down to a shitty market

Agreed, I also own but Texas is one place where renting can make sense. With no income tax and a high property tax renting can be the smart way to go. Austin may be somewhat insulated but the surrounding areas tank when times are tough.

If this was for me I wasn't knocking, I was agreeing w his opinion on Austin's inflation.... As for my previous comment I was implying that us ladies needing to lower our rates, again, in order to rent a place is a joke. My best friend does just fine and is successful here, despite the inflation, and literally just signed a lease this month. Demand hasn't changed, rates haven't changed, money (of course) has not changed. Call it luck, or get reaaaally being great at this business, but not everyone is going to suffer or modify. Gotta love our world at times. Especially when you are as gorgeous and skilled as she is.

Sixx it wasn't so much a knock on renters as a response to a rude comment from someone blaming people from LA for their high rent. Not all who don't pay rent have mortgages, because they don't live in Austin, and prices are half that of Austin. And taxes are much less. Mine are 1,300 yearly.

It is the fault of the people moving from the West and East coast who are to blame (or credit) for increase housing prices and rent increases. It was like that in 90's as well. They sell their house for 800k, move to Austin and have to buy high to avoid capital gains. I remember when I moved here in the late 90's stories from realitors about people literally putting for sale signs on their lawns and have people start bidding on them fresh off the plane. It's not an insult to people from Cali (again me being one) It's just a reality in living in a city that has so many imports.

How do Texans, with one of the lower housing cost in nation, drive up the prices anywhere?? Other then our crazy ass heat and humidity this is one kick ass place to live. Taxes low, housing low, budget balanced etc....
