Byrd looked so bad when the Kennedy funeral motorcade drove by the senate side of the capitol last year, I thought they should put him in the hearse with Teddy.

Byrd robbed the federal budget and moved a significant percentage of the government to West Virginia during his career, at our expense. I for one won't miss him.

If you're on the left side of the road or the right side of the road, you'll be safe. If you're in the middle of the road - SPLAT!!!!

Left or right, we have basic core priniciples we believe in, and will fight for our side for the defeat of the other - I may dislike the left, but I respect them. I do not respect those that can't take a stand on any priniciple - that put their finger in the wind and let that drive their decisions (about 80% of the GOP and Dems in Congress right now).

You respect them by trashing on them on the day they die, you dont have to stand on the far right or the far left side of the road to have principles. You bases your core principles on a letter R. As long as it has an R in front of it, life is good. I should have known better than to expect any type of class from a Dick Cheney wanna be.

Default Byrd

On NPR yesterday afternoon they had an old interview with Byrd on Fresh Air. I knew he was a Fiddler but I did not know how good he was playing and singing BlueGrass music. He made an album in 1978 and they played several songs from that.

I liked it a lot!

He moved a bunch of FBI work to West Virginia. Clerical stuff. Used to be 3-4 small town women stuffed in a DC apartment trying to make a living there. Monitored for behavior by FBI Codes. Ratted each other out if did sinful things that besmirched the FBI standards.

Now in West Virginia where you can likely make a living on what they pay you.

I give him a B+ or A-

I guess the conversation became more appealing...or is it your need to get in the last word? I, on the other hand, am not so insecure as to have to insult those that I disagree with when I don't have a valid counterpoint...or did I miss your post in this thread that praised, or at the very least, complimented the Grand Master?

Since he's been room temperature for over 24 hours, I guess I can say that big, bad, Bobby Bird was one of the architects of the opposition to the Civil Rights bill in 1964, even going so far as to filibuster the bill for 14 1/2 hours. I won't repeat what he said about those who would benefit from this bill, but let's say it wasn't too complimentary and he would have kept the Chosen One out of the White House if he had his way, and not because of his politics. There's one for the Grand Master. I will say that giving over $1 billion in projects to his home state, most with his name on them, while head of the Senate Appropriations committee was something "good" he did.

"or did I miss your post in this thread that praised, or at the very least, complimented the Grand Master?"

The difference is I did not feel the need to insult a dead person. But hey if you think thats appropriate then like I said it was a classless move. I dont think I had a problem with a counter point, I told you I thought it was classless, I wasnt going to debate in a thread about a dead person whether or not it was okay to talk shit about them. So there was no need to counter point, simple fact of the matter is if you felt insulted because you were called on a classless move then that your problem. I dont have the hate in me that you do that makes it okay to degrade a person who has passed away on the day they pass away, especially in a thread where everyone was asked to be respectfull. So if I insulted you in some other way please feel free to let me know how.

I am done with this, I am not getting points talking to someone who believes bashing dead people is a class act. You may bash away to your hearts content.

The death of Robert Byrd does not change what he did during life. Our reluctance to speak ill of the dead is a reflection of our own fear that someday we will die. However, I also believe in letting those who grieve, do so in peace and dignity. There will be time enough later to review the pros and cons of Byrd's career.

To those who loved him, I offer my sincere sympathy. To those who didn't, hey, he's gone now!

If it were Linbaugh layingy on the table cheaper, they would be asking for a day of prayer and demanding respect from all posters

If the governor makes an appointment before 3 July they have a special election this November. If after then the new guy has until the next general election.

When someone dies, there will always be those who say the world is better off without them. Some just say hateful things that do no good. I've been to funerals where the eulegy was about someone else, not the dead guy in the casket, but it does no good to trash them at that point. Try to remember the good things and forget the bad. Then there are those like Mark Madden, who have to have the last hateful word. He was the one who said, "I'm very disappointed to hear that Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts is near death because of a brain tumor. I always hoped Senator Kennedy would live long enough to be assassinated." How cruel was that?
