Some of these responses are funny.

On a more serious note:

I would never bring a gun to an appointment.
If you have a CHL, you know; if you whip it out you better pull the trigger.

Who wants to deal with that mess.

I suggest not going to see a lady if you feel like you might need a gun.

Some one robbing you of $200-300 is much less than paying court fees and a lawyer
100k+ to prove it was self defense.

Or even worse a hospital bill worth that much, and explaining to everyone you know how you got into a shoot out.

Hobby safe everyone!

I get the idea of insurance wherever you are, lots of people who carry carry all the time. But I don't see how that could possibly work. Are you going to wear it while otherwise naked? How do you intend to keep it under your control at all times, which in my opinion is one of the most basic responsibilities of carrying? Do you REALLY want to have one on on the lady and the other on wherever it is you left your gun when you do your thing?

Never forget either that you are only justified in using deadly force in response to the credible threat of deadly force (when you're in someone else's place). Implied threats generally aren't going to cover your ass (like a big pimpy looking guy standing in the door trying to look bad ass). Even violence doesn't always justify use of a gun...only deadly force which means the jury thinks you were going to have broken bones, damaged organs or a life threatening amount of blood loss.

^So true^

This isn't the new wild west.

I'm only looking for one pistol to be cocked and loaded...
the one you were born with.

Wow! I think that I've generally felt that you were either angry, stupid, or both. We have agreed to disagree before, no?

But I digress. Your post represents almost word for word my own opinions on this subject. You are spot on EJL.

I'm a gun's rights advocate, and i own quite a few. At home, I keep ammo and weapons locked up separately. With teens, and a very spirited Mrs walker in my home, I'd prefer to keep shit locked away. I do however, keep a Yarborough within close reach when I sleep.

Again, I digress.. I couldn't agree more with EJL. I've lived a bit over 40 years. I've been involved in fights, group fights, gang fights. I've had a pistol held to my temple for being at a party where apparently, I didn't belong. Even lately! Read my recent post in the alerts section.

In any or every situation that I have faced, I'm confident that being armed would have led to a situation far worse than I experienced. If you have a CHL, then you know that EJL is correct. You don't pull that shit out to scare away a pimp. You only draw if you intend to use lethal force; or kill the bitch.

Me? I'm with EJL on this one. I'd prefer to rely on my wit, easy attitude, and quiet confidence, to remove myself from a dangerous situation. Seriously, that brotha who came up on me last week scared the shit out of me. If I'd had one of my pistols, there's no telling what the hell would have happened.

What EJL and Jay Walker said! Truer words have never been typed! They are both spot on, IMHO!!

See JW, The difference between me and you is; when I disagree with someone I don't think that someone is angry, stupid, or both.
I just think: they just think what they think.
Disagreeing is natural. It's the way it's always been, and the way it will always be.

I'm not an angry person dude. Quite the opposite. You'd be pleasantly surprised.

I'm not one to participate in Groupthink.
I'm not scared of what misconceptions people may have of me. I save all my goodness for those who just accept me for what I am, even if they disagree with me.

But, I too, digress....

I'm glad we could agree in something JW. I'm also glad you were able to walk away from that situation last week unscathed.

So I had a though with regard to this statement:

So something else I remember learning in CHL class: Good o' Vigilance.
I remember the teacher advising to always think many steps ahead (not a bad idea for all circumstances in life). I think I remember him breaking it down into colors green, yellow, and red.

Let's say you leave Speakeasy and enter the ally:

Green: Some nuns passing out flyers about Jesus.

This is totally ok.

Yellow: IDK what Yellow would be. Some situation in between Green and Red. Maybe some frat boys and girls are out there smoking and carrying on chanting their little chant somewhat aggressively.

Tread carefully

Red: Some gang members fighting and set trip'n.

Run the other way.

Or just get you a shotgun and display it in the back of your truck window and shout out:
"DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS BIIIIIIIITCH!"

See where that gets you.

The bottom line is you can only use a gun when all other means fail. Even when you pull it out, you don't have to use it. You can defuse a situation from that alone. Someone has a knife and is using it in a threatening manner, you pull the pistol to get them to drop the knife. The only issue is that by law you are supposed to call LE and report the situation. That opens up a whole new can of worms by doing so. Pick your poison and take your chances. Have verified/reliable watering holes and you shouldn't have those type of problems.

I've seen the results of knife fights. If anyone pulls a knife on me and I am armed with a gun, they've just bought the farm. No negociations or attempts to talk them to anything, they are simply history.

I would rather have twelve judging me than six carrying me.

BTW, I think it is a bit silly to carry to a session.

Reminds me of the rifleman's creed USMC:

This is my rifle, this is my gun,
this is for fighting, this is for fun.

I carry a small black bag, kind of a combination mini-backpack / manpurse. I've been carrying it over two years and it goes everywhere I do. Last month a provider insisted that I empty it before the session would take place so she could assure herlelf there were no weapons. First time for that.

I would think that most providers would probably feel uncomfortable with a hobbyist bringing a gun to a session.

Just think about the situation from their perspective: female and alone in a fairly small area with a (usually) unfamiliar man. Now add a gun into that mix for a great first impression...

I carry a pistol everywhere I legally can UNTIL I go in to see a woman. I have forgotten to take it off and leave it in the truck and excused myself to run to the truck to put it away, She asked why and I told her I would explain when I returned as I didnt want her to be alarmed,

If I think Im gonna need a gun to go see a girl -- What the hell am I doing putting myself in that situation anyway,

The real question is should I buy that sweet Kimber 1911 ultra crimson carry with the red laser grips or spend the $1000 on a different hobby?
