Are you getting a Smith & Wesson Model 66, .357 caliber? That's what this weapon is, with a lightened trigger and Hogue grips.

Excellent advice! Test results show the .40 cal. to be the top round in one-shot stops, even ahead of the .45, which surprised me. And, Glock makes a very dependable weapon.

My home state has a "make my day" law, and added a broader protective statute this year.
The amendment states: The court shall award reasonable attorney fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income, and all expenses incurred by the defendant in defense of any civil action brought by a plaintiff if the court finds that the defendant is immune from prosecution…
Let the bastards come now...

I like the glock better too, but for protection, get a revolver...
I shot my guns last night.... gave me a rush! Think I'll go shooting again soon

A revolver is good but you only have 6 shoots, with a Glock you can get the extended clips and have 15 shoots. Also with the 40cal you have enough knock down power for any purpose and with the Glock just about any body can shoot it because the recoil is very managable.

No, it was the Ruger .357 Magnum with a laser thingy on the handle. Is that bad? I really liked the feel of it in my hands.

Liking the feel of it in your hand and being able to comfortably hold on target goes a long way in selecting a weapon. Rugers are well-made & dependable weapons. My tri-focals won't allow me to focus on both the target and open sights at the same time, so I like laser sights. No, i don't think your choice is a bad choice. But, if you have opportunity....shoot other weapons, including the Glock, and then determine if you like the Ruger revolver best. If I had opportunity, I'd drive to your area and bring a few weapons for you to shoot to help with your decision.

I still like the Colt 1911 .45 cal. It is my carry weapon of choice very little kick cause it is heavy but what a knock down. It is the small arm of choice for our seal teams. For Ginger I think you should go to the range and shoot several before you purchase the important thing besides taking a course and getting your permit is practice practice practice. So you should get a weapon that you like to shoot and shoot it often. You should be able to shoot your weapon, reload, and shoot again in the dark. Become intimate with it as it may safe your life.

No question about the knock down power of the .45, but the heaviness of the weapon is the reason I switched from carrying my Colt Defender .45 to a Glock .40. I still use a .45 for my truck gun, but it is a Glock Mod. 21 loaded with 13 rounds in the mag and 1 in the chamber. Lots of firepower.

springfield xd9 sub compact
have had one of these for about a year and i also have the permit and carry it quite often with a "inside the waist band" holster..has a 3in barrel holds 16 in the clip...has the trigger like the glock and the grip safety like the 1911 as well...many features....also like the kahr model in 9mm in their lower priced model...cw9093 and also comes in 40 cal....small clip but thin and easy to conceal.....the newest model from springfield has the adjustable grip size and comes with 3.8in barrel....not a single misfire yet with mine.....

Nice choice for a carry. I see a lot of people into the glock 40 and it is a reliable gun but I don't like the feel of it at all.

Pick one and get comfortable
There is a different gun for almost every situation. There have been some excellent well thought out posts on this subject. Best recommendation I've seen is to find something you are comfortable with. Feeling unsure at such a dire time is unnerving and dangerous. I feel the most comfortable with my Springfield 1911. It stays in the night stand and I'm not concerned with it's accuracy because it is just about loud enough to scare someone to death. Just remember, if you ever fire a shot your best defense is you felt the safety of your or a family member was in immediate danger.

AK Gun registration
I know this is an old thread, but have additional question about Arkansas gun laws. If one has a concealed carry permit, does the gun itself have to be registered in AK, and what is necessary to register it. If a gun is received as a gift does it need to be registered, or is the carry permit good for any side arm ?
