it is very likely that they were just very good friends. Lincoln appointed Speed's brother as U.S. attorney general. also contradicting the supporters of Lincoln being bisexual; Speed got married to a female and had few children.
btw, I used to have that big book about Lincoln written by Carl Sandburg. wish I'd kept it.

I just picked the wiki link because it summarizes what many historians believe.
It was a different time. People slept together and it wasnt sexual. It was out of necessity. Nor was lincoln a pedo in my opinion.
Both men were married and speed did have children. Fags until the 70's and later have had to hide their sexual preferences. Many still do!
I stand behind what i have read on lincoln being a bi-sexual. Furthermore i believe he preferred men and if he were alive today he would be a san francisco resident.
