Mr. Lincoln cared a great deal about whether Great Britain and France were involved, and that you don't know that reveals your ignorance on the subject. Vietnam wouldn't have been as long or as bloody except for the intervention of the U.S.S.R., the U.S. and China. Again, your ignorance of the subject is profound.

Caring or not, it didn't matter in the choice to secede. It mattered on how the war played out, not in whether or not there would be war.

Remove the Soviet Union and the Chinese and there would have been no Vietnam war. Following a diplomatic course that kept France and Great Britain on the sidelines went a longways towards Mr. Lincoln achieving the victory he aimed for.

There would've been war. Maybe not over Marxist/Capitalist ideology, but definitely over have/have not reality.

Just a thought on the swastika.

I was watching the History Channel and the commentator stated that Hitler studied various symbols before deciding on the Swastika. But what he did to transform it into the visually striking symbol was turn it 90 degrees.

It's amazing what that simple turn did in transforming a rather benign symbol into one that defines hatred, racism, anti- semitism, and murder.

Me thinks what transformed the symbol was the death toll and not the 90 degree turn!

Without China or the Soviet Union to pump in money, training and high grade military weapons, there would have been no war.
