The OP asked who is the "greatest one-hit wonder band," not "who is the most excrutiatingly painful fake rapper with a sampled hit in the history of music." So how Vanilla Ice ever appeared on this thread is beyond me.

Anyway, I always liked "Signs," by the Five Man Electrical Band. Not bad if you turn it way up.

What's interesting though is if you look online an old VH1 list ranks him # 7 out of "100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders". I listed him as a joke to add a little humor to the thread, especially since he's one of the only Dallas born-and-raised "one hit wonders" I can think of to have a # 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit. Wikipedia says..."Ice Ice Baby was the first hip hop single to top the Billboard charts". His song must have been important to someone if he sold enough records to have a # 1 hit in 6 countries, lol. But on the serious side, did you not notice how his name stood out and didn't fit-in well with the others I listed? Geez, lighten up, enjoy life, and maybe consider responding with a small chuckle every now-and-then if something seems "out of place" to you.

In Europe, Golden Earring has more than 40 top hits. Sorry. They're not a one hit wonder at all. One of the biggest bands on the Continent.

@Bushaholic

Point taken. Some things just bring out a visceral reaction from me, like Vanilla Ice, or CBJ. They're here, learn to live with them. Deep breaths......

Agree, Radar Love was solid.
Two offerings for this:
1 Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky,
2 An obscure hit from the late 60's called '96 Tears.' The artist used a symbol for his name, well ahead of Prince. The song was re-titled from its orig version called '69 Tears.'

"96 Tears" was by ? and the Mysterians. Though from Michigan, the band had some Texas connections, primarily through guitarist Robert Balderrama, who later played briefly with Joe King Carrasco.
