The Knockout game certainly exists. And this attack just as certainly was NOT an instance of the Knockout game.
The Knockout game is always perpetrated by males - mostly black - in their teens or early 20s. They are sadistic punks who get a thrill by harming and humiliating others - usually of different races.
But this guy was a loner - there was no one else there to cheer him on. And his is 35 or older, not some teen. And, as pointed out above, he has been busted about a half dozen time in the past year. He is clearly one of the many deranged people that inhabit NYC streets.
So, give it a rest.
