In an ideal world, a democracy means that every single person's vote is equal. In an ideal democracy, there wouldn't be an electoral college. Everyone would win based off of the popular vote.
But as soon as we started to take away the slaves, the south states, that only had a tiny fraction of the population that was all-white enough to vote, so they got the 3/5 compromise.
Then later, the EC was introduced to give the smaller states equivalent swinging power as the large ones.
All this means that your vote has differing power depending on where you live. That isn't a democracy. That's a democratic republic, which is on the fast track to becoming an oligarchy, like Russia
