and it gets worse. Trump plans to personally control the oil funds from Venezuela in offshore accounts, the height of corruption. why wouldn't this money belong to the U.S. Treasury?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/...105611279.html

he never ceases to amaze..

nice try but not what they said. they want assurances that their assets and investment doesn't get confiscated like has happened before in South America. and not just Venezuela. every time one of these South American nations goes commie the first thing they do is confiscate assets especially foreign companies, mainly US companies. my Dad was a senior exec at Anaconda and when Allende a socialist became president of Chile he confiscated all assets of US companies in Chile. Allende didn't last long before the Chilean military led by Gen Pinochet deposed him but Pinochet while not a socialist wasn't much better and didn't return US assets. Anaconda and other US companies did eventually get some reimbursement. Anaconda got 250 million for what was then and still is the largest known copper reserve. a literal mountain of copper. know what my Dad said at the time? "big fucking deal. we got 10 cents on the dollar for an estimated 25 BILLION in copper".

these Oil companies want some assurances this doesn't happen again before they commit. who knows, in 10 years these idiots in Venezuela might elect another socialist asshole like Chavez.

if the Oil companies get guarantees by both side they'll commit to rebuilding their former assets which will benefit Venezuela as well as the US. Oil was the reason Venezuela was prosperous before Chavez. the Oil is for the benefit of Venezuela more than the US. it's the only way they will be prosperous again and for the US it's more about keeping these resources away from Cuba, China and Russia and reducing their influence in South America.

Trumps agenda is the Mondroe Doctrine. Full control of the western hemisphere as in no russian, china, or communist interests. That's also why Greenland is important, it's a choke access point.

Biggest issue I see is that by the time the systems could be brought up to speed, oil will be on it's way down. With advances in cheaper and better alternatives, oil is going to begin it's decline globally around 2030. It's a stupid play any way around....but then so was Trump Vodka and he still tried that.

“Well, they call it the ‘Donroe’—I didn’t call it that, but they’re calling it. It’s the Monroe Doctrine, but now they call it the ‘Donroe doctrine,’ which is basically safety for this part of world,“

?
The order defines the protected assets as “Foreign Government Deposit Funds,” including oil proceeds tied to the Venezuelan government, its central bank, and state-owned energy company Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. The funds are to be held by the U.S. government strictly in a custodial capacity and may not be used for commercial activity or private claims.

Hmmm

“You have total safety,” Trump told the oil executives.

"American companies will have the opportunity to rebuild Venezuela's rotting energy infrastructure and eventually increase oil production to levels never, ever seen before,"

"One of the things the United States gets out of this will be even lower energy prices. We have people now getting gasoline for $1.99, $1.96, $1.95, $1.92," Trump said. "It used to be $3.5, $4, $5 a gallon. Think of that. $1.99."

And these lower prices are supposed to encourage big oil to spend tens (hundreds?) of billions in Venezuela how?

Trump and his cabinet sometimes seem to be on different sheets of music.

Trump hints US will reimburse big oil.
Quote:
“A tremendous amount of money will have to be spent, and the oil companies will spend it, and then they’ll get reimbursed by us or through revenue,”

But on Friday, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, who also leads the White House’s National Energy Dominance Council, put a pin in the subsidy angle: the administration doesn’t plan to hand out taxpayer funds to underwrite oil sector rebuilding in Venezuela. Burgum said the cash needs, which are widely estimated in the tens of billions over the coming decade, will have to come from the companies themselves and the capital markets, with the U.S. offering security and a stable operating environment rather than checks.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright echoed that sentiment on television, noting that institutions like the U.S. Export-Import Bank could offer credit support, but so far companies haven’t asked for direct money.
