As for kissing there are some dawgs who don't do it either. That ALWAYS has me feeling weird about the session. First... my comment was sarcasm. You are right, very little is better than sex eyes staring back up at you.
As for red-heads... nothing wrong with a redhead being hot. I do agree that Julia Roberts is not much more than cue though.
Kissing absolutely enhances intimate times, as that is probably the best way to gauge passion.
