Burning Need
Well, to tell you the truth it was quite maddening in the beginning when everything appeared to be so chaotic.
No one, not even my professors seemed to know the big picture and most did not even care to ask the big questions much less understand the answers.
However, with luck and persistence you manage to cross a certain knowledge threshold, then things start to fall into place and make sense.
As to why I had to know the diameter of the earth, I felt an obligation to know and understand these things.
. . . It's a genuine burning need to know.
I only wonder why everyone does not feel that same need?
As to my social hierarchy poll, I expected to find a standard deviation curve from the results and guess what?
. . . That's exactly what I found!

It's not everyone's job to know the diameter of the earth. If it's yours, what a great job you have. What do you get out of this?

From 30 people who were potentially dishonest? Hoooorrraaaaay beer!
I can't speak to anyone else, FG, but I have a burning need to learn other things. I understand a need to know the earth's diameter, and why it's so important to know these things. But in any scenario where that information is pertinent, as an individual you have no impact.
I've learned to live by the serenity prayer. If I can change it, I will, If I can't, I accept when it's obvious I won't. But the wisdom to know the difference is where most people lose focus.
Still don't know what you're gathering at here. I know this is the penultimate in human interaction and seeking to understand us humans, our desires, and what moves us. But I implore you not to put people in boxes, especially when your sampling process may be a little off.

Social status is only as important as a person makes it. Humans are notorious for always wanting to classify things. It's the only way they can make sense of it.

Yes, of course, I know people can be dishonest, but that is factored in.
This poll is after all, merely a casual conversation piece, not a learned white paper for publication.
I will allow you to live your life as you see fit, Tiff.
. . . I only ask the same courtesy from you, thank you very much!

Yes'm Masser Gunn, thank you for allowing me the room to live my life. I'm not trying to tell you how to live yours. All I'm saying is that even as a conversation piece, what were you expecting? The last place one expects to talk about on purpose is social hierarchy in the demimonde. If that were the case, all these rich guys would be trolling for top notch, high quality, GPS booty, and we all know that isn't the case. You're creepin'. I'm creepin'. We're all equals now.

Masser Gunn
Well, I don't know about this "equals" business you're rambling about, but I love it when you call me Masser, but next time try it with a demure courtesy.
Then you may draw my bath at the precise temperature of course, before you serve my dinner with the appropriate wine chilled to the correct degree.
. . . Then we'll see what you might surprise me with for dessert!

I don't compare myself to anyone so the last thing I am trying to do is elevate myself on a redundant social scale. Now matter how much money or power you feel you have it doesn't gain respect or adornment- just mild tolerance.
When we die, we all rot, so what's the point?
