When Trump took office (Jan 20, 2025), the U.S. national average price for regular gasoline was about $3.08–$3.11 per gallon (per AAA, BTS, and EIA data).
Today (Jan 17, 2026), it's $2.83–$2.84 per gallon (AAA reports $2.839 as of Jan 16–17, with recent weekly EIA around $2.78–$2.84).
Gas is roughly $0.25–$0.28 cheaper now — down about 8–9%
