Off the wall thought. Instead of hobbyist maybe use Gentleman.

change provider to Lady.

In a forum such as this the reader will be aware of the fact that a service was utilized and a fee paid.

I see you had trouble making it past the first 7 posts before weighing in with your unique idea

I have never cared for the term "hobby". Collecting Star Wars figurines is a hobby.

The problem we all may be missing here is the very nature of language. No matter what we settle on with regards to denotation, the connotation will quickly catch up to the vowels and consonants.

No matter what the word sounds like today, tomorrow the context will make it sound less pretty.

Even take the more elegant French word demimonde. . .said with enough sarcasm and derision over time, the word will lose it's luster.

I know we are just having fun with the banter, but we should not lose sight that a serious discussion on picking new terms is Sisyphean at best.

Indeed. Whore - a word I still love, was once a simple factual word. Not an insult.

Very good point.

Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable than me on the history of the Old West will know this, but I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the term "Soiled Dove" was actually considered a compliment or a term used for the more upscale birdcage lady in the saloons and dance halls.

Looking at the word today it sounds distasteful and rather rude.

Default I don't think words exist for my approach

In all seriousness, I don't even know if words exist to describe my approach to the hobby.

I mainly see two women; and may occasionally see another.

In one of these cases, the woman is truly a dear friend and confidante of the highest order. I could absolutely trust her in any way, and I know the situation is not at all based on money. The relationship is "hot." We converse after sex.

In the other, I see her mainly almost as a professional colleague. I trust her implicitly, though she is in no way a confidante. The situation is certainly monetarily based, though not exclusively so. The relationship is warm and the sex is rational. We have intellectual conversations during sex. A friendship is forming but not completely so.

I hold both of these women in extremely high regard, and enjoy them in all respects. I know they hold me in high regard as well; and would do so even if they collected no money from me. They are in many ways different, and in many important ways the same. Frankly, I would be seriously distraught if anything bad were to happen to either of them.

That, to me, doesn't sound like a "hobbyist" or a "provider."

On rare occasions, I will see someone I haven't already seen. Not really out of a desire for novelty for which I have little propensity, but simply because the woman has in some form or fashion impressed me as a whole person that I would like to know.

Even on a first visit with someone, it isn't a hobbyist/provider thing. Dang, the lady typically has the option of skipping behind closed doors for the same price. (Though all have chosen to go BCD, which I always enjoy.) If she has the option and knows it won't affect my opinion of her either way, it's hard to even define her as a prostitute -- at least as far as her dealings with ME are concerned.

I'll admit that some men have seen this approach of mine, for which I have no name, to be worthy of ridicule.

And, to be sure, I am not a client even remotely suitable for many providers. So some providers have ridiculed it as well. But I DO screen in ways to make sure I don't put myself where I am unwelcome. I screen far more thoroughly than most providers would imagine.

But the result is that I enjoy my time with the women I see and can be confident that they enjoy their time with me so that the arrangement is mutually satisfactory and mutually beneficial.

And that is what really counts. Everyone wins, nobody loses. But as for putting names to it? I can't think of any.

Except for the attorneys who garner that name sully its meaning by their actions.

I think courtesan describes this conduct. You don't see escorts as much as you see mistresses...you have my admiration.

Another Old West query: we commonly use "kitty" to refer to a lady's nether region. Now, did that come from Miss Kitty of Gunsmoke fame, who was commonly thought to be a prostitute? Or did it have its origins elsewhere?

I , often use the term Playmate ...... it's non-gender specific , as we are both Playmates . Some of us may take this sexual enterprise we all enjoy so much, too seriously. I have always considered "The Hobby" as Play !
