It fails to mention that al-Zarkawi pledged fealty to Osama bin Laden in 2004 and then fought under the al Queda flag until we killed the cockroach in 2006. The rest of AQI were beaten down and driven out of the major Anbar cities during the 2007 US surge. Al-Baghdadi was in US captivity during this period. ISIS wasn't created as a new "brand" until after we released him and he fled to Syria to exploit the 2011 Arab Spring unrest there. Your own link confirms this.
