First, it was nice to see a presidential debate in which the main goal did not seem to be demeaning the other participants.

Winners -- Warren, Booker, and possibly Klobuchar

Losers -- O'Rourke, Delaney, Ryan, Inslee

I agree with Lucas McCain. Very early in the weeding out process. A year from the Democratic convention.

Anyone could beat Trump if the Democrats can turn out non citizen voters and stuff the ballot box like LBJ used to do...

isn't the debate kind of early?

Republicans didn't start their clown show until after November 2015.

I think it's partially tactical in that they are trying to whittle down and solidify the field well in advance of the primaries rather than having so many candidates in them like the shit show the Republicans went through at the start of the primaries.

The Dems spent a lot of time hammering the size of the Republican field and now they are getting hit with the same and now even worse.

Welcome Lucas.

I've been saying the same thing but since after Trump's win and before his inauguration the MSM have been touting "Who's going to beat Trump in 2020." Almost as ridiculous waste of airtime as the collusion delusion.

I only care about what the last 2 still standing on both sides have to say. All of this other rhetorical participation bullshit is a moot point to me while most of these clowns on both sides are on the extreme side of the spectrum while trying to distance themselves from the pack.

at this point Trump has no real challengers .. the only declared is Weld who has little chance at all. a token challenger. Kaisch may enter but now he's not a sitting Governor like 2016, so that should work against him. at least he's not cheating Ohio by running this time, if he opts in.

Weld who has declared and Kasich are the only two even mentioned in this article. I don't see Kasich as a serious threat to Trump for the nomination this go round, he was a distant third before as a sitting Governor. what makes him think .. if he gets in .. he'll do better now?

Kasich faces the same issues the Democrats do .. what is he going to attack Trump on? the "floundering" economy? huge unemployment? opposing secure borders? trade? that's mostly resolved. Is Kasich gonna claim Trump should be impeached based on the Mueller nothing burger? oh yeah .. that'll work!! not.

So who else is gonna jump in as a Republican that has any national profile? no one stands out to me.

possibly the biggest thing would be a major player running as an independent, Bloomberg perhaps? the Starfucks guy Schultz? He's mainly a democrat and as soon as he even mentioned he was thinking about a run as an independent the Democrats went nuts deriding him to keep him out.

and as well they should, an independent who is not a firm Republican puts the Democrats in a very bad position and plays right into Trump and the Republicans' hands to win reelection.

interestingly .. there is a farcebook "Starfucks" page .. it's pretty funny .. who'd they steal that logo from? The Grateful Dead??

There is no serious Republican challenger to Trump and none will appear. Franklin Pierce, 14th POTUS, is the only sitting president who was not nominated by his party for a 2nd term.
