Apparently I'm an outlier. I've been married the better part of 25 years now. The wife and I had sex within a few hours of first meeting. We met at a bar, left there and went to a party and she needed a ride home. The rest is history. I had sex with a few women who I happened to know somewhat beforehand (work or school), but mostly it was a thing where we met, one thing led to another and we realized we were both interested, and went home and fucked. In two cases it ended up being the start of very long term relationships. The other ones were closer to one-night stands. But in zero of those cases was it ever a situation where I took someone out on a series of dates with the ultimate goal of ending up in the sack. And it's not like I've ever been any sort of smooth talking player, either. There was always some sort of ice-breaker, like mutual friends in common:
"Oh, you know so-and-so?"
"Sure, we've been friends for ages, strange how we've never met before!"
"If you know so-and-so, then you must also know what's her face."
"Yep, sure do. She's SO funny!"
"I know, right?"
