Casting in fresh water isn't fishing.

Most people do, without knowing it. Scallops in Texas are actually stingray wings, according to Texas Parks And Wildlife. Notice the sides of them. Straight, cut out with a cookie cutter. Real scallops have rounded sides, like oysters. Actually, pretty tasty!

Best tactic for hardheads. Ram one end of some needle nose pliers down their throat and squeeze until their eyeballs roll up. No problem unhooking them then.

Hardhead safety tip. If finned by one, rub the slime on the wound. Pain stops immediately. I stepped on one and the spine went through my tennis shoe. A guy on the pier told me to rub slime one it and it worked like a champ!

I like Galveston fishing pier (GFP) and Seawolf Park (pier). 61st is run by jerks.

I take a small rod and reel and use super small hooks with dead shrimp to catch croakers, sand trout, and whiting. I then cut them in large pieces and use my 10 foot surf rod with wire leaders for the big fish. I've had some great luck at both Seawolf and GFP with getting in on bull red runs.

Except for what I use as cut bait, I catch and release everything. I'm there for the enjoyment of being in the outdoors and a battle with a bull red, shark, big spanish mack, or big black drum.

The Seawolf Park pier is good, but at this time of year my favorite was always wade fishing the lagoon behind the park (bay side) for flounder, using mud minnows. Middle of the week, not crowded, lots of fish. Good times!

Seawolf park gets to packed that's why I like my fishing spot nobody really knows about it.. You have to know where it is to get to it.. I post it on certain FB groups and people are left guessing but I never tell because once people figure it out there will be a crowd.. Whiting are delicious

Tide sucked yesterday but managed my two keeper flounder at the ferry landing. I hate when those cocksuckers see when you catch/release and they crowd you trying to get the same fish.

Damn 7 years with a license and no sight of a game warden? I grew up w/o ever getting a license and saw them all the time. I remember my step dad and uncles showing me how to smuggle fish and what to say if we got stopped lol. Then again thru the years I've seen some truly dumb asses who got caught and it was always a WTF were you thinking moment.

Stopped fishing only because I eat what I kill and I don't eat fish. I hated Galveston though. It was more fun going down towards Corpus. When I was more inland I had to get my own bait ie catching crickets and rubbing sticks for worms.

Yes. The water is cool, so you need to stay warm and dry.
