I wrote a nice long post about this that promptly got ignored because Whispers likes to open new threads with very long names. I think it bears repeating and emphasizing.

ECCIE is a board dedicated to the free and open flow of information and conversation. One of the strongest rules Eccie has in terms of posting and moderation is that very little is edited away. This means that if, say, I decide to make a post flaming Whispers and spending 4 pages full of personal attacks on how he was a horrible person and how much I wanted to kick him in the junk, it would stay up, because it isn't one of the 'third rail' forbidden topics (minors, drugs, etc).

Now. That does NOT mean that there would be no consequences to my posting like a jacktard. Those consequences are kept quiet, but they do happen, and you will note that there are some very active and acrimonious posters who are no longer here. There are *other* very active and acrimonious posters who *are* still here, but know very well where the line is drawn and manage to stay on the correct side of it while being controversial.

This is because opinions themselves aren't bannable. You are free to express whatever opinion you like, no matter how dumb or wrong or objectionable (such as, oh, as a wild off-topic example, "no one was ever hurt by BBFS and all the girls do it") as long as you do so within the board's guidelines (which mainly amount to a very basic level of respect).

Sometimes that gets heated. Sometimes people get angry at one another over things posted. While it would be ideal if people could keep a level head about words posted on a message board, the alternative to having the ability to speak your mind is that some don't particularly like the give and take of argument. That some dislike that, and disengage from it, is unfortunate, but has to be measured against the value that most get from a message board with free and open exchange of views.

This is especially the case for some providers who feel that engaging in that give and take causes them to lose business. I think that's pretty sad that it's true, since it shows that some men fear opinionated women. But, again, that's a price levied for a message board where people are free to argue.

If people feel that these guidelines aren't being followed, they are free to PM myself or the other Austin mods with specific examples.

If people feel that these guidelines aren't being following because of myself or the other Austin mods, they are always free to go over our respective heads by contacting the board administrators.

If people feel that the board guidelines themselves are in error, they are free to simply not participate, patronize other boards, or use ECCIE solely for its intended purpose of advertising, reviews, and leaving the exchange of opinion for other venues with moderation that suits your views.

I hope this makes some things clearer.

I agree that eccie is better than aspd.

However, I think the environment, especially Welcome Wagon, is more hostile.
It's not always the Snack Pack, but I've seen the newbies posting some unwelcoming comments.

In the Reviews section, it's usually a WK playing Captain Save-a-Ho or a newbie calling out a duck (it's actually funny).

In the end, it'll work itself out. Popcorn, anyone?

It's always been clear Vyt. This Thread wasnt about rules or guidelines being broken but rather "Drama, Highly Vocal posters, Disrespect, Trash Talk?... Why do YOU perceive ECCIE to not be a "friendly" place? "

I am not going to a mod or over a moderators head to discuss why I feel teh way I do. He asked. I answered.

and Ztonk.. "Those of you sitting on the sidelines pining for the "good old days" and the ones who just constantly complain about "Whispers" or "the attack pack" are really the problem. You just don't see it."

You're also far off the reservation. I will assume the moderator hat was off when you posted that? hope so. In either case I totally disafucking agree.

cheers

Not really sure what you want, then. If you don't think there's an issue with moderation and guidelines, then OK.

Do you want people with controversial opinions to sit down and shut up so as not to offend anyone? "Drama, disrespect, highly vocal posters" may make Eccie an "unfriendly place" but I would submit that heavy-handed moderation to remove all of the above would make it distinctly *more* unfriendly.

I really shouldn't but here goes.

First of all I'm a big believer in freedom of speech and freedom for everybody to do whatever the fuck they want as long as it doesn't affect me.

Whispers and Sixxbach and Wyldeman (maybe a few others but those are the ones that come to mind) make this the kind of board that I really don't want to participate in. At least not out in the open in the posting forums. It's not as friendly/civil in my opinion as the old board. And to jump into any post just seems like you're asking for frustration and tedious bickering. I understand the old board had some fucked up people and some fucked up problems. I'm just talking about the tone. It seemed like they clamped down on things and made rules that were put in place to handle the lowest common denominator. This place seems to expect people to act like grown ups and be civil to each other but to me it seems more like a very loosely governed Lord Of The Flies.

And actually that's fine with me. That's this board. Cool. Whatever. I get enough info out of this board to meet hot young girls for fun and I'm happy. That's all this board is to me. I don't need participation in this board. It's not a social club for me. I email/PM a few guys on here pretty regularly to keep up with things and share info about providers. If some people want this to be a "community" and treat this like a "hobby" and have drinks at the club then more power to them. I just want to dip my toe in this little world of nefarious goings-on. I don't want to get to know people. I'm far enough down the rabbit hole, thank you very much. I kinda hate the idea that I drive by some places and know that a pimp named such-and-such did this-or-that with whatshername and their junkie friend next to the dumpster and... Ugh! Jesus. I just want to know enough and be informed enough to keep me out of those situations.

And I get that out of the board. Whispers always says there's now a "free flow of information". Great. All I need/want. I got that out of the old board too. I don't see a difference at all in the quality or amount of information I get now compared to then. None.

I understand Ztonk's point that if you don't like the direction the board's participants are taking things then non-participation only exacerbates the "problem" (...then the terrorists win!). But honestly I just don't care enough to "participate" on the level that some of these other guys do so what's the point? Some of these guys seem to really love participating. They choke the board with their posts and any attempt to fight them just results in the same "high post view" train wreck as always. It's a war of attrition and in the end you just end up exhausted and frustrated.

To me it's like some crazy guy has decided to park himself outside my office building and shout ridiculous crap all day. What do I do? Let's say he's not breaking any laws. Is the solution to go down and beat him up? I'd get arrested. Should I shout reasonable stuff right next to him all day to balance things out? Fuck that. I've got a job. Do I move office buildings? Well, if it becomes so bad I can't stand it, yeah. But the best thing I can do is just put on my earbuds and go to work. I can't hear him from the 30th floor anyway. Besides, every now and then he says something useful and he gives Christmas presents to kids once a year. And on the way in and out you just ignore it or laugh at it. It's not that I hate the crazy freak. I just wish he'd shut up and not shout what I perceive to be crazy ridiculous crap in front of my building 24 hours a day. But, hey, it's a free country. And the main thing is... this isn't where I work! It's just a stupid message board!

So. To me it's not as inviting to participate as the old board was because Whispers and his crew have changed the tone and apparently have the time and inclination to keep it the way they want it. I miss posts from guys like Ready2Rock and EZman and Carl and some others. I have no idea why they don't post anymore and I'm certainly not speaking for them. I don't even keep up with them.

I'll share info with people I don't consider to be complete dicks and for the record I don't think Whispers and Sixxbach and Wyldeman are dicks. Their presence and posting just make this the kind of place where I don't want to post much. But I get what I need out of it and I contribute the way I choose to and I don't let it eat me up. Who the the fuck cares? The board belongs to the people who participate in it (and the owners ) and a handful of guys have chosen to really participate. So I guess now I'm more of a lurker. In the long run, the tone of this board doesn't really affect me.

These guys think they are entitled to hurl insults at anyone they please as they desperately try to disguise their hate as "the free flow of information"...and they get away with it...and it is accepted as a way to treat people here...and that is why I rarely post here anymore.

It's quite sad really, because when you are on your deathbed and no one gives a shit...being nice THEN won't do you any good.

Life is short...enjoy it.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Certainly you can do better than this trying to condone your own bad behavior?

Or perhaps...it could be that if your posts are insulting to others and force others to feel as though they can't post out of fear of retribution from your attacks...then PERHAPS...it's YOU who has "issues" that YOU should address quickly?
