Deaths way down - cases slightly up.

Still not a disaster or anything close in Texas.

so Abbott is "reopening" Texas soon..

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/17/polit...rus/index.html

but I'll ask again. how is this significantly different from what we have done for a month?

Phase One is near lockdown.. talk to me when you're ready for Phase two. if that goes past June, we're all fucked.

The other part of phase one is that all AMP ladies get to claim they are in their 20's and no one can question it under penalty of a two hundred dollar fine!

Part of me wants to say that Abbott is moving too soon, but he did have the presence of mind to go ahead and cancel school for the rest of the year, so its really a "wait and see" approach at this point. I don't think you guys are at your peak in Texas. You got started later than most of us-- and up here in Ohio, our restrictions began earlier than y'all-- and this week we've really ramped up our case numbers. The tiny little county I was born in has just had a major spike in cases-- and testing really isn't as widespread as it should be. I mean.. 179k tests in a state with a population of around 29 million? That's not even 1%. Plus, there have already been stories of people who had a false negative before finally testing positive.

500 people a day die in Texas and so far this virus has claimed less than that, and virtually all of them old and having significant comorbidities that hastened their deaths.

We need to look at the all cause mortality and see if a significant number of additional people have died during this time frame.

I think we have peaked and I appreciate Gov Abbott starting things back up again.

No one in Texas has died from a lack of available medical care for COVID-19 patients. In fact, most hospitals have stopped elective cases and are way underutilized.

Gov Abbott is opening up elective surgical procedures in Texas - hospitals are desperate for income to support their existence. no income - nobody home to care for Wuhan virus patients.

People in wheel chairs have to get a head-start .....

..... The Governor, like the President, has some folks reviewing the situation, reporting to him, and assisting him in his decision making as to when and how to creep back into some normalcy.

Since gasoline prices are so low, THEY might start with removing the permission for "take-out" alcoholic beverages and restrict liquor store hours. Keep the bars closed.

no need.. few people on the road, I see many drivers doing 80-85 MPH just because they can.

by the way, we apparently didn't go to the "Summer blend" gas this season, which spikes prices up 20 cents.. it's pointless, pollution is way down anyway with so few drivers.

Curve is actually flattening again today - just 663 new cases, another drop from the day before.

Deaths are way down.

Fascist DPST's want to continue the shutdown to trigger a Great Depression.

Their only chanc to defeat Trump in Nov 2020.
They are both shaking in their boots about improvement - and in denial - they cannot give up their One Shot t nov 2020!

I believe they want a total disaster of economic deprivation and death to defeat Trump - and blame him.

Abbott moving too soon..are you f**king serious. He’s done squat so far. He promised testing kits weeks ago, now it’s crickets, nothing. Now he’s opening up the state 24th because he’s another trump ass kisser. Do nothing ass bandit.
I’ve called numerous hospitals and they’re not even close to testing
And there’s always caveats. If you show no symptoms...tough luck. They don’t test those folks
And don’t believe the CDC website...or anything to do with HHS or some half baked map where they claim they’ve got testing sites in Texas...it’s a bunch of hooey
We are on our own. This is it...
I hope you Trump sheep are satisfied.
Now you can all go back to work. Just don’t even think about crossing my path

I'm guessing you didn't actually comprehend what I wrote. My "moving too soon" was in regards to reopening the state. Given the fact that "well the number of cases each day has plateaud"... is due just as much to a lack of available tests to anything.....

How does one claim that the number of cases has "peaked" or hit a "plateau" when you cannot just walk into your doctors office and ask to be tested? My 19 year old (doesn't live with me) literally had all the symptoms and was told that since he was low risk, they wouldn't test him and just to "assume he has it" and stay home for 2 weeks.

When you don't or won't test.. its easy to show whatever you want the numbers to be. Harris County cooked the numbers for the first few weeks until nurses started snitching them out for it.

Yes.. we need to reopen the economy and we need to do it soon-- but we also need to at the very least, have an abundance of testing available as we are doing it. Cases are going to spike within 3 weeks of reopening things.. because people are dumb.
