I've never judged Trump for this incident. He's not responsible for the rubes that eat every word he speaks as though it is gospel without any kind of discernment. Most reasonable Trump supporters knew what he meant.. he's not responsible for the pure idiocy that exists in the world. Out of all the misspeaks that he made over his 4 years.. this one was one that shouldn't have received the heat that it did.
