Trump just KNOCKED OUT Iran's whole succession line in ONE DAY
"They’re all dead. Second place? Dead. Third place? Also dead. Nobody left! We took out EVERYTHING. Sorry not sorry Iran, your mullahs picked the wrong fight"
Zero f*cks given

Your feelings for me aren't really a part of the conversation, and I don't care about them either way. You can give strangers on a forum your approval or disappointment if you want to, but it doesn't mean much to me. You might want to keep it for someone who finds it motivating.
The main point was pretty simple: saying what a columnist thinks doesn't answer the legal or factual questions about whether something is imminent or whether Congress has authorized it. An op-ed makes a case, but it doesn't settle the issue on its own.
Since then, the thread has gone off on a mix of red herrings and a pretty typical Gish gallop. It started with Libya, then went through ten different historical military actions, and now it's going through decades of presidential war powers. This approach doesn't address the core issue; it merely expands the argument by incorporating every conceivable point.
At that point, it doesn't seem like a focused discussion anymore; it seems more like an attempt to drown out the thread with noise. I prefer not to argue about U.S. foreign policy for the last 50 years in a forum thread; let's discuss the original topic instead.

TRUMP DIDN’T JUST SAY HE’D PICK IRAN’S NEXT LEADER.
HE ALREADY DID.
While Iran’s Foreign Minister was on TV saying “it’s up to the Iranian people” — Trump was on a secure call with a single person: Ali Larijani.
The former Speaker of Iran’s Parliament. A man the Deep State thought was their ally. A man who met with John Kerry 14 times.
But Larijani’s son was executed by the regime in 2017. They called it a suicide. It was a message.
For 9 years, he waited. For 9 years, he plotted.
And for 9 years, he was Trump’s backchannel into the heart of the IRGC.
When Trump said “I’ll pick the next leader” — he wasn’t making a threat.
He was giving a signal.
To Larijani. To the 12 generals loyal to him. To the 4,000 soldiers ready to defect.
This isn’t a war to destroy Iran.
It’s a coup to liberate it.
And it’s happening now.

So, what about the 6 soldiers trump had killed under his watch? We just gonna sweep them under the rug?
I mean, it's obvious MAGA doesn't give a flying fuck about the 148 young Iranian students trump killed, but we're just just gonna give him a pass on these 6 of our best and brightest? Shrug our shoulders and move on? What if this was Benghazi instead of Iran? Still wouldn't give a shit? Probably not.
Oh well, I, for one, thank them for their service and mourn the fact that they were killed for absolutely no reason other than the president of the United States is a psychotic piece of shit.

NEW: “I just spoke to President Trump 20 minutes ago and he told me this…” reveals Fox’s Brian @Kilmeade
TRUMP: “Iran had thousands of missiles pointed at all these Middle Eastern countries for the last four months. They were going to take over the Middle East, they were going to control it all: UAE, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia. They had 1,200 missiles pointed at these countries.”
“All these nations were afraid of Iran and they are not anymore... But they had reason to be afraid. We have knocked the hell out of them like no other nation could and they still have remnants left.”
@michaelgwaltz reacts: “This is one of the reasons why Trump did what he did now. Imagine if the President had kicked the can like so many of his predecessors had. Iran had tens, if not hundreds of thousands, of drones and missiles. That’s the shield behind which they would develop a full blown nuclear program.”

They were killed because of trump's illegal actions that led to war with Iran. They'd all still be alive today if not for his incompetence and lawlessness.
This is way worse than Benghazi and you people haven't shut up about that yet. So, welcome to the other side of that shit.

Lol. How many times is the number of missiles going to change in this rambling wreck of bullshit?
By the way, this is the exact same rationale Bush Jr used to attack Iraq. Gotta hand it to the GOP. They realize exactly how stupid and easily frightened their voters are.

As for when Congress has to be notified of military action, the Congressional Research Service has explained that the 1973 War Powers Resolution passed by Congress requires presidents within 48 hours “to report to Congress any introduction of U.S. forces into hostilities or imminent hostilities.” After the military action is reported, the resolution “requires that the use of forces must be terminated within 60 to 90 days unless Congress authorizes such use or extends the time period.” It also “requires that the ‘President in every possible instance shall consult with Congress before introducing’ U.S. Armed Forces into hostilities or imminent hostilities.”

That’s stupid, petty, and an insult to anyone whose ever worn the uniform. They were killed by the enemy, not the president. Lots of people didn’t agree with entering every war we’ve ever fought, you’re not the first whiner and won’t be the last. FDR didn’t kill 400k Americans in ww2 and Biden didn’t kill a bunch of marines in his botched Afghanistan pullout. It’s a dangerous job and people sometimes die, but someone has to do it, and those people don’t try’n put the blame on who’s in charge.

Doesn't matter, oldman.
If jayzee and fd-guy proclaim it to be "illegal", that settles the question and ends all further debate!
You mustn't confuse them up by citing the specific requirements of the 1973 War Powers Resolution or the numerous historical precedents such as the 10 examples I cited in post #113 above. Everyone can see you're just trying to trigger them and cause them to experience severe cognitive dissonance. Do you want to make their heads explode? Stop being such a meanie!

TRANSLATION: I don't care if multiple Democratic Presidents have repeatedly done the same thing in recent years. It's only illegal when a Republican President does it! And it's 3X as illegal when that Republican is named Trump!

Gotcha Time!!
Pencilneck Adam Schiff fucks up again!
On his show “Real Time” Friday, Bill Maher read a 2011 quote from the Obama camp about presidential power in authorizing military strikes — without naming the former commander-in-chief.
“This statement from the administration: ‘The president had the constitutional authority to direct the use of military force because he could reasonably determine that such use of force was in the national interest.’ That’s too vague for you?” Maher asked Schiff, who has loudly opposed Trump’s decision to strike Iran without congressional approval.
Maher disguised a 2011 quote from the Obama administration on Libya as the Trump administration’s justification for their involvement in the Iran conflict.
“Totally vague,” the senator replied confidently.
“OK. Because that’s from Obama about Libya,” the host revealed.

If you say so. At least I didn't call the fallen military members "suckers" or "losers". That might get me elected.
