I don't recall ever hearing a discussion about the scenario you're describing. The people I know and work with mostly went to technical school or have engineering degrees. Your abilities determine the job you get. I do recall Chris Rock saying most whites wouldn't trade places with him. And he's rich.

The black guy was fucking with him and he threw hot coffee in his face. The response was instant and reactive. The black guy wasn't in a fighting stance before the punch or after the punch. He didn't pursue him.
Yes, the guy was making racial comments. Yes, he was fucking with the guy. The clear evidence is the punch was a reaction to the hot coffee. It doesn't make it okay. It doesn't justify it. And it doesn't make it a hate crime.
