Default Android Apps

I recently bought an android phone and I've been playing around with a few of the apps to see which ones are useful/fun/entertaining etc. Some of the apps that I like so far are:

Soundhound which is an app that helps you identify a song that you hear or even hum, but it can do so much more. http://www.soundhound.com/index.php?action=s.videos

Places Directory which helps you locate places of interest such as restaurants, banks, stores, etc. http://sites.google.com/site/placesdirectory/

Barcode Scanner which gives you information on a product when you scan its bar code was well as the ability to locate the item online and review prices. You can also scan QR Codes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPFLfdlyn0I

Radar Now which shows the weather radar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN5nqwqE7ew

Advanced Task Killer stops apps from running in the background thus prolonging battery life. http://www.androidtapp.com/advanced-task-killer/

Beautiful Widgets which in an app I just love. It changed the clock on my screen to one that is more appealing and also gives a quick view of the weather. It does more but check it out here http://levelupstudio.com/widgets/weather

What are some of your favorite apps for android?

I use the barcode scanner and the Advanced Task Killer. Both work perfectly.

There's also one called Houston Traffic where you can see the traffic in real time on every freeway in town via highway camera.

The Droid X forums are full of info. I would recommend perusing them (especially about app killer).
The phones are amazing with all the apps available.

I have a Droid 2. A wonderful device!

There is a book by Mike Hendrickson & Brian Sawyer called Best Android Apps. It lists a lot of apps of a number of types. Most of them are pretty darn good. The book is published by O'Reilly. ISBN is 978-1-449-38255-1.

Check out the app called Google Sky Maps. Definitely not to be missed!

At the risk of sounding like a old geezer, these phones are amazing.

You can also sync your gmail to it, which means all the cell pics you take can then be directly loaded up on your gmail.

Default don't forget the anti-virus software

These phones are smart but still they are computers. As such virus-jockeys are turning their attention to producing viruses aimed at the smartphones.
The app markets have virus programs for download; some are free. I use DrWeb and it is free.
Happy hobbying,
Moto-Droid user

I like the fact I have Google Voice, my google calendar and email from my primary gmail account plus an alternate gmail account on it, got the bar code scanner plus GPS Essentials for bookmarking locations.
I have a few other items on it but they are those boring computer tool type stuff

I like World Tour. It's not useful at all, but I have it set to change the background on my phone every 30 minutes. It has webcams set up all over the world, so it's rather interesting to open my phone and see monuments like the Eiffel Tower or the Coliseum in Rome.

I had a thread a couple months ago seeing if there was any interest in a hobby based app. And tried to get an idea on how many people on here used android based phones.

I am currently developing a layer based application for Dallas Adult Entertainment.

I'm currently using a G2 and a Galaxy Tab and my iPhone 4 gets very little love these days.
