Well, regardless of whether his teleprompter went down, or he paused for emphasis, or he had a senior moment like Biden and McConnell, he didn't start ad-libbing. His campaign probably was happy to see that. Trump kept his mouth shut and stuck to the script. That's a lot better than rambling on about Mexican murderers and rapists or very fine white supremacists.

On the other hand, there are a lot of Mexican-American voters. That comment and others like them cost him votes in 2016. And it cost us goodwill with Mexico and Mexicans. Although it was kind of entertaining hearing Vicente Fox, the Mexican ex-President, repeatedly saying "Fuck Trump" in heavily accented English in interviews.

In October 2014, he was arrested again for driving with a suspended license. In early March, the Polk County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office announced the completion of an 8-day anti-human-trafficking sting, which began on February 22. Out of a total of 228 suspects arrested for alleged involvement “in illegal acts related to soliciting prostitutes, offering to commit prostitution, or aiding and abetting prostitutes,” 21 individuals (almost 10 percent) were illegal aliens from Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela. (Polk County Sheriff’s Office, March 5, 2024; Breitbart News, March 7, 2024)

On February 8, Mexican national Rogelio Ortiz-Olivas was driving drunk in Midland, Texas, hitting 10-year-old Alex “AJ” Wise, Jr., who was walking home from school at the time. Ortiz-Olivas fled the scene while Wise died of his injuries the next day. The illegal alien initially agreed to voluntarily return to Mexico the first time he was caught and was subsequently deported five times. (CBS7, February 8, 2024; Breitbart News, February 15, 2024)

On the evening of December 5, 16-year-old high school cheerleader Lizbeth Medina was stabbed to death in her apartment in Jackson County, Texas. The alleged killer is Mexican national Rafael Govea Romero, a visa overstayer who had apparently shown “stalking-like behavior” in the days leading to the murder. According to El Universo, in 2022, Govea Romero “was arrested for residential burglary and charged with a felony for which he was on probation,” but apparently managed to avoid deportation. (ABC13, December 28, 2023; El Universo, December 13, 2023; Fox News, March 7, 2024)

On September 14, Mexican national Juan Vicente Zavala Lopez allegedly shot and killed his roommate, Ruperto Mondragon Salgado, and allegedly shot police officer Derek Williams during the subsequent car chase and exchange of gunfire in Dallas, Texas. According to Breitbart News, Zavala Lopez had been “previously deported from the U.S. at least nine times and has an extensive criminal history, including felony drug convictions. He also previously spent 18 months in Texas state prison,” although some of his indictments were in California. (FOX4, September 18, 2023; Breitbart News, September 20, 2023; The Dallas Express, September 20, 2023)

On July 25, Cruz Garcia allegedly raped a woman while strangling her, nearly suffocating the victim to death, in Delaware County, New York. He had the opportunity to allegedly commit the rape because, rather than being handed over to ICE and deported, Garcia had been released from Orange County jail two months before after being charged with drunk and unlicensed driving. (Breitbart News, August 17, 2023)

n June 22, police in Franklin, Tennessee, arrested 63-year-old Mexican national Camilo Hurtado Campos for allegedly drugging and raping at least ten boys between the ages of 9 and 17 whom he had invited into his home over the course of possibly as long as a decade, according to police. He was taken into custody after accidentally leaving his phone at a local pizza shop, leading employees to discover disturbing content. Hurtado Campos was a popular soccer coach in Franklin and had apparently lived in the U.S. illegally for 20 years. He had previously been arrested for public intoxication in 2005 and three times for driving without a license in 2006, 2015 and 2016. Mystery also surrounds the question of how the illegal alien managed to become a referee with the U.S. Soccer Federation, which would have required a background check. On May 20, 21-year-old Mexican national Lucia Garcia allegedly placed her newborn baby in the trash after giving birth in the bathroom at Staten Island University Hospital in New York. She inexplicably claimed that she assumed it was just blood. The baby was hospitalized after staff heard cries and the illegal alien woman was arrested. The Mexican citizen arrived in the U.S. illegally in July 2022 to join her father, who had been living in New York City for approximately 4 years, after which she applied for asylum. Thankfully for Trump and his supporters, The Donald kept his mouth shut for 30 seconds instead of doing something stupid like attacking the 37 million people in the USA of Mexican origin. Many of them are voters, and all of them are descended from Mexican citizens. In his June 16, 2015 speech, Trump didn't say whether the Mexican rapists and drug dealers and criminals were legal or illegal. He actually followed up with an attack on a federal judge, Gonzalo Curiel, that might lead you to believe Trump had it in for all Mexican-Americans, regardless of immigration status. He didn't call Curiel a criminal, but he sure as hell dug himself deeper into his hole with Mexican American voters.

Who knows, given he was in Texas, maybe something like what you wrote was running through his mind during that 30 seconds. And he caught himself and realized he better just keep his mouth shut. Although Yssup's probable preferred explanation, that he's senile, makes more sense.

Which makes sense. If you're going to get kicked out of the country if you're arrested, you're not as likely to commit crimes.

You can though easily put together a list of 10 or 20 Mexicans and other Latinos who committed crimes in the USA. Likewise it's easy to put together a list of 10 or 20 people who died from the COVID vaccine.

Fortunately for him, Trump's watching what's coming out of his mouth more closely than before. That's part of the reason why he's seeing more support from Latinos and other minorities in 2024 than 2016.

Have you ever read Les Misérables. Seen the musical or the movie perhaps. I’m not saying that all illegal immigrants are Jean Valjean but these people came here for a reason. Let’s try not to imprison everyone just for stealing a loaf of bread.

Immigrants, legal or otherwise, contribute to our economy and society in many many different ways. I think that spending the time effort and money to round up all these people, imprison them, deport them to a penal colony, etc, etc, is simply deranged. To stay on topic I certainly think that Trump is a dipshit for blaming immigrants for all of our problems. Whether he denies it or not.
