Yup. Grammys have been returned due to deception which is what prompted my question in the first place. Controversy surrounding issues like this is not new...and yes, where do you draw the line?

Well, there's another interesting flick coming up where an actress is pushing her limits: Amy Adams is playing Janis Joplin in a film to be released next year.

I gotta say I was shocked at this choice. This movie was originally going to be made with Pink in the lead who I think was gritty enough to have pulled it off. As much as I love looking at Amy I'm not too convinced she's got the acting chops to go full throttle grunge. Her pipes are little too sweet as well. I wonder if there's yet another controversy in the works if they body double her for the sex scenes and pull out a cover artist on the vocals. All the best to her if she does pull it off.

Speaking of that - one act we forgot about here was Milli Vanilli. They had their Grammy yanked when the truth came out. There's some precedent for ya!

Cheers,
Mazo.

How about we draw the line at acting?

I honestly have NO IDEA as to whether or not Portman's alleged dancing ability had anything to do with why she got the Oscar for this role. Hell, I haven't even seen the damn movie yet!

The only people who know why Portman got the Oscar for the role are the ones who voted for her.

- If the idea that Portman did her own dancing influenced their vote; and
- If she found out that out; and
- If she's of the sort of person that such a misconception bothers her

Then, yeah...she ought to give it back. *

Short of that....

* Presuming the stories that she didn't do the dancing have merit. Do we even know that? Some say she did, some say she didn't.

Through the weird journey of my life...I got to know the woman who was Vivian Leigh's "dance double" in "Gone With The Wind." This just in....

Clark Gable couldn't dance a lick!

@Mazo

I've only seen Amy Adams in some pretty soft roles. Mostly backup characters. I liked her in Leap Year (yeah, I'm a sucker for sappy stories), but based on what I've seen, IDT she can handle a really hard dramatic role.

But that's also what I thought about Sandra Bullock before I saw Blind Side (now my ATF movie), so what do I know?

I guess it depends upon how you define "soft roles", CT. I thought she did alright in the role of Mickey Ward's gf in "The Fighter." The scene where she gets in a fight with all of Mickey's sisters etc on the front porch of their apartment....classic...at least to me!

I missed that role. I don't care much for the sport, so I don't watch much of anything to do with it. I didn't even see the one with Hilary Swank and Clint Eastwood. I might watch it sometime, though...it was supposed to be pretty good.

"Million Dollar Baby" has a decent storyline. I have never cared for Hilary Swank though. I don't know what it is about her...she just comes acros as someone who tries too hard to be naive. I'll take my hat off to her for doing her own boxing though. The woman (I forget her name) who she fights last in the film is/was a pro-boxer in real life and she was one of Hilary's trainers. She said she was very good and picked up the moves quickly. Most interesting snippet of all was that Clint said he picked Hilary because her (real)background was similiar to the character she playing, Maggie. That's a pretty shitty background for anyone to work through. Interesting account of all that on DVD...

Fair enough, CT. If it helps...the boxing scenes in "The Fighter" are rather cheesy...I like the sport a lot & didn't much care for them. I enjoyed the movie in spite of them rather than because of them.

The story of Micky Ward...and his brother...and the odd relationship they have are what carry the movie in my opinion. Amy Adams (as Micky's gf) is great in that she gives Micky the kind of unconditional support his mother/manager just can't seem to do. She's the one who stands up to his family first...a la the brawl on the porch.

It's what leads me to believe she might just be able to pull off portraying Janis Joplin. I can't see her in this role, either...based on her other work.

Christian Bale as Dicky Eklund is reason enough to watch The Fighter. Even as we left the theater, my SO and I felt Bale was deserving of an Oscar, and I was happy to hear he won for his role as Micky Ward’s older brother. At the end of the film the real Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund have a cameo. You can see that Bale was spot on with his portrayal.

I think Bale is great. American Psycho anyone? I couldn't watch him in anything for a while after seeing AP as he creeped me out that much.
To prep for his role of Melvin Purvis in "Public Enemies" he spent ages with the Purvis family (according to them) wanting to know every little detail of Purvis right down to how he put his coat on. They said Christian captured the mannerisms perfectly. He sounds very dedicated. I will probably go and see the "Fighter" given the feedback I've heard about Bale's performance.

I don`t think she should give the Oscar back. Even if she did n`t do 80% of the dancing. It was her role and she got the oscar not only for the dancing, if at all. There are a lot of bodydoubles hired for actors and stuntmen and who knows what scenes got cut and which made it into the movie and such. I think the dancer is a hystrionic Primadonna. Its a but lame to come out with this "now" for profit. If it bothered her why not come out during the acting in progress, after the movie was finished? No it had to be after the actress won an oscar. So, its lame attention seeking. Even if it is true its still lame to out it at that time for her own benefit. That is my opinion.

Plus, i am very sure these actions will have legal consequences, which means that usually when you work for a movie you are required to follow certain rules of conduct. I am sure she is in breach of a lot of them which will get her sued.
