If I may add one point to the "reason" for the selection of those countries: They lack an "information infrastructure" (if I can use the term "infrastructure") that is readily available (they can have it but not allow U.S. access) to verify information about persons who appear to obtain a VISA or persons who claim to be from one of those countries who have fled the country and are residing elsewhere (e.g. a refugee camp).

One of the "things" the anti-Trump crowd either DON'T KNOW or REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE is those countries cannot or will not verify personal history information to "vet" someone trying to enter the U.S., and they want you to "forget" that ISIS reportedly has taken control of several facilities that manufacturer travel documents (counterfeit) for persons wanting to travel to Europe and the U.S.

Guess who is now approved in the cabinet who knows more about that shit than anyone in the Government now? And what I am talking about is knowledge of moving about the World within the framework of the existing network of CIVILIAN travel systems! He also knows a helluva lot about "vetting" within those "systems" for the purpose of establishing the identity of the applicant....and he has the private resources a phone call away!

The concept of protection by water really only applies to an amphibious assault. This is not WWII and terrorists have no need to infiltrate North America by sea. They can just buy a plane ticket.

I also question the validity of 2 years of investigation. The process takes 18-24 months. Most of this time is spent on a waiting list. There is little to no investigation during this time. We just dont have the personnel to get to each case immediately so applications sit in a file until they have been reviewed. Almost any low ranking member of terrorist organization can get through screening as long as his finger prints are not on file as a terrorist. Background checks include telling where you have lived and where you have worked. You also need references. Here is the kicker. The refugee gets to pick his own references just like you can give your own references when you apply for a job. You dont give the conract info of that guy you didnt get along with. You give them the info of someone that likes you and will say good things about you. A terrorist is not going to provide contact info of someone who will rat him out. He us not going to tell us to check with the family of the Christian he beheaded last summer. He might even pick someone who doesn't know how radical his idealogies might be. (Keep in mind that the definition of radical is very different in the middle east. What we call radical, they call moderate.)

If you don't believe these people are dangerous, feel free to book your next vacation to one of the 7 countries on the list. Go to a nice safe part of a city and explain that you are one of the Americans that will welcome them when they arrive in America. See how they "welcome" you and tell us how these people treated an American when they got the chance.

Same with marriages and other relationships, including family members.

An additional problem is their informal name changing and morphing their dates of birth (if they even announce one) ...

that occurred in the migrations from S.E. Asia and Korea to the U.S. How many "Nguyens" came from S.E. Asia? How many of them were Nguyens before they "got on the boat"? There are a sufficient number of persons who came to this country purportedly with their parents, but they were not their biological parents, but became so with bought "adoption" that amounted to nothing more than a stamp on a certificate from a "notary" ... with may be some wax to make it look real!
