Thoughts on Lube

One of the fabulous humans I met on my last trip to Dallas asked me to join and start posting here...

So I'll start with my thoughts on lubes... I'd love to hear what others think...

One note: my specialty is strap-ons and assplay... so I view lube *differently."

KY- Good for a short period of time, but increases in viscosity as time goes on which makes it harder to use*. KY is a terrific lube for dryness in vaginal sex, but it really isn’t great for assplay.

Wet. Great in the beginning, but loses it over time, and adding more doesn’t always help.

Crisco- Bad. Just bad. It erodes condoms, attracts every gritty particle anywhere near you, and really doesn’t aid in reducing friction. And it’s hell to get off.

Boy Butter- The oil based stuff is okay…but it’s hell on latex condoms. The water based stuff is amazing.

Stroke 29. Not good as a lubricant for toys, but it’s VERY good as a masturbation cream.

J-Lube. Lovely when mixed correctly. I mix it with warm water so it feels amazing. As it cools off, it also gets stickier… and stringier…

Aloe Vera. While the lower viscousity in pure aloe (really pure stuff... not sooth-ocaine or other altered aloe) doesn’t last very long, it is a calming lube that soothes without hiding irritation. (Anal-ease also soothes, but the analgesics in anal ease can mask pain, which is a good indicator that something is wrong.)

Lotions. Most lotions are not a good idea, since some people can be sensitive to ingrediants. Particularly bad for this sort of thing: anything from Victoria’s Secret (they use some caustic perfume ingredients) or anything with a “branded” perfume or scent- such as Emeraude. If you must use lotion, stick with Aveeno or anything without dyes or scents.

*When I first typed this, I made an error... I remembered my physics terms incorrectly. Lower viscosity good, higher viscosity- thicker and slower...

So, you didn't say, but I assume from your description, your choice is the water based Boy Butter?

I love warm J-lube. I love boy butter too, but warm j-lube is fabulous. It does get stickier, but don't we all?

Astroglide is somewhere between KY and Wet. It works, but it doesn't last very long, and it has viscosity issues after a while. The nice thing about J-lube is that when you add more, you get fabulously slippery again. If it starts getting sticky, you can add more warm water. (It doesn't have to be warm water- but warm water feels better...)

It seems to be out of favor but I've always found plain ol' Vasoline works very well. You do have to keep it fresh as it gets sticky after a few years in the jar. LOL

Vaseline is a fabulous lube for anal sex with non-latex condoms. However, there are two really big problems with Petroleum Jelly:

a. It can break down latex condoms, so it's not good if you are not fluid bonded.

b. It doesn't wash away with water, so the Vaseline can stay in place, and it can trap bacteria and lead to a really nasty infection unless you adjust your diet (it's a lots of fiber thing).

Never use vaseline for vaginal sex. It does wretched things to a woman's good bacteria.

Nuru is actually Japanese for Slippery (or Slimy). It's not a brand name. There are a number of companies which offer the basic oils that most use, which are combinations of seaweed gel, sesame oil and/or cedar and sandelwood. I recommend "Nature's Gift" (add a dot com to find it).

And yes, I do like a bit o' greek when waved in... So it has not failed yet...

When doing Prostate Massage or strap on play, Astroglide seems to work best.

I find Baby Oil works very good for HJ.

My friend that does massages just on women, he likes to use Coconut Oil (yes the cooking oil), heat it up and glides well on the skin and smells pretty good too.

Absolutely correct, but it was great in the days before AIDS. I don't think any of the new lubes produce the long time lubrication or the feeling. Never used it for vaginal.

I'd like to add my thoughts about using lotion for lube. It's horrible. An excellent case in point is Albolene cream, which a few decades ago was a popular lube and supposedly, caused the vagina to feel tighter.

It was awful and burned. I still read about the stuff on occasion, though. Use caution when using any type of lotion, including Jergen's, which was the stuff that my best friend in school said that this was the best stuff to use if you were going to give your boyfriend a handjob.

Gosh, we were innocent then!

I still prefer KY Liquid, not the jelly or warming fluid, as my favorite overall product. I don't like having a half a dozen different lubes that I have to carry around.

If the folks here were to pick two lubes to have, what would be your top two? Something like astroglide or KY and then something a little more slippery? Like WET?
