Default Another Obama Boondgle Brewing

More proof that "green" doesn't create jobs and Obama doesn't know what he is doing..........

Solyndra, a company that Obama touted as an outstanding example of green job creation thru public-private partnerships; granting them a $500 million stimulus loan (taxpayer guaranteed); has filed for bankruptcy; defaulting on the loan and leaving the taxpayers footing the bill.

National Review writes today that the spectacular collapse of Solyndra is Obama’s Enron, but I think it is much more analogous to the collapse of Lincoln Savings in the late 1980s and will have the same effect on the politics of “green energy” that Lincoln Savings had on the politics of the savings and loan industry, and for the exact same reason: the political connections of Charles Keating then, and Obama donors and appointees in the case of Solyndra now, add the specter of political corruption and insider manipulation along with large taxpayer losses (looks like taxpayers will be out more than $500 million for Solyndra).

Solyndra executives had over 24 visits to the WH and Solyndra investors were heavy contributors to Obama campgain coffers.........

The Los Angeles Times takes note of all this today in a clear-headed and surprisingly bracing editorial:
When Solyndra, a Bay Area maker of industrial solar panels, announced plans to file for bankruptcy protection Wednesday, it wasn’t just a blow for the company’s 1,100 laid-off employees or the investors who have pumped millions into the venture. It called into question the Obama administration’s entire clean-energy stimulus program. . .

That’s especially troubling because Solyndra is backed by one of Obama’s key fundraisers, George Kaiser of Tulsa. . .

Two important questions are raised by Solyndra’s failure: Should the government be in the business of picking winners and losers by providing loan guarantees to risky energy ventures? And is Obama using stimulus funds to reward his political contributors? . . .

To the second question, we’d like to see the results of the House energy committee’s investigation. . . if there’s evidence that political rather than business considerations played a role in funding decisions, Obama will have much to answer for.

Update: The FBI raided Solyndra's headquarters, seizing files, virtually guaranteeing that Congressional inquiries will be stymied by the Obama administration........at least thru the 2012 election !

More proof Obamanomics (crony capitalism) is a failure !

Green energy is just not an economically viable alternative to punching a hole into the ground and getting billions of BTUs. I'm 50 years old and have been waiting 40 years to be able to put a cheap 1Kw solar cell on my house.

The bigger story is why the Demomedia isn't holding BHO accountable to this and other stories like Operation Fast and Furious.

Emails showing White House (Joe Biden) pressure to rush approvals of the $500 million loan/guarantees to Solyndra have been released.......they show high level political pressure put on OMB bureaurcrats to approve the loan before they had completed their due dilignence...there were alot of prior warnings about the this company, but the Obama administration didn't want to hear it ! Afterall, the George Kaiser was a major bundler of campgain contributions for Obama.

Obama incompetance and crony capitalism is costing taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars..........we can't weather another 4 years of his wheeling and dealings!

I will take issue with blaming this on "incompetance" ...

1. fat campaign contribution
2. union project
3. $535 million
4. bankruptcy in one year.

Smells like "Chicago as usual." And the stench is overwhelming.

And before the Obama zombies chant "but it's Bush's fault"...let it be known that the Bush administration denied Solyndra's application for government funding weeks before the end of the Bush presidency; knowing that Solyndra was a financial risk !

But Obama wanted to pay off a politcal debt; and once in office, rammed the loan approval thru !!!!

American taxpayers are now on the hook for the loan guarantees !

LL will cry for days on end when I throw "WMD's" back at him! Only this time he threw it back on himself.

LL----->

Poor LL! The truth hurts, doesn't it!

Yes, but I can live with it. Can you?

Where are those jobs in the "green market"?

"We" all get our time in the barrel. It's yours.

I don't mind spending "my time in the barrel" but I will insist upon it being an American made barrel!

I am all for jobs in the "green market!"

Heck fire, I can even live with Red, Blue and/or Purple jobs as long as they are good paying jobs right here in the good ol' US of A!
AMERICA FIRST!!!!!

I don't know anybody who is against green jobs, or made in America labels; so your post is kinda lame....

But the Obama administration thinks they are smarter than markets and can pick the winners from the losers!

+1

If "green jobs" means a job that makes green money, that's my kinda job, and I prefer that job be here in the USA.

Having said that I am opposed to paying $50 to $60 for a plain white t-shirt, because some union hack wants $35 and hour with "cadillac" exempted health care coverage with all the family and extended family covered and the union "dues" fully paid, along with every other benefit known or imagined to mankind....and when he or she doesn't get their "annual" raise they quit making t-shirts until they can charge me $75 to $80 for one to cover their "cost of living increase"! If "we" want to be "competitive" then be "competitive" in the real market and don't try to "manipulate" the market to increase their prices to fit the union contracts in this country.

Don't shoot the messenger! I was merely responding to LL's "kinda lame" request. But since you brought it up, LL has a long history, make that a very long history, of making "kinda lame" posts and requests!

Some things just never seem to change! But I will say this much, LL does "kinda lame" with the best of 'em!
