That is a great site. Make sure you read all the FAQ's before you start trying to bid. The info from there has helped me get some really great deals.

Smile FYI

for a period of 5 or 6 years I had 2-3 business trips a month and I booked my rooms 80% of the time on priceline. The larger the city the better chance of getting a good deal.

All the advice above it quite good. I would only add two things. Many people have a tendacy to bid more than they need to on priceline.

As an example I got the Mayflower hotel in Washington DC and, a Hilton hotel right off the tollway in Dallas, and a another Hilton hotel close to Disneyland in Californa each for $41 a night. plus the priceline fees.

The other thing to keep in mind if there is a big event going on in the city your chance of getting a good deal on priceline becomes much more slim.

Do some research on the area in which you would like to visit at
http://biddingfortravel.yuku.com/ - it works like betterbidding.com frequent users supply their lowest successful bids on priceline for that area and hotel star rating. YMMV depending on dates and availability - I've had great success getting rock bottom prices at great hotels.

Default Priceline Name Your Price

Here are the instructions on how to do multiple free rebids on Priceline to get a hotel in your area of choice. I use these techniques every time I need to book a hotel room and they work. Chevalier mentioned these techniques in his earlier post but this link will provide the exact steps necessary to do this successfully.

Priceline works great for me. I've gotten 4 and 5 star hotels for $50/night. Also, I've NEVER had a Priceline Surchage added to my bill. What I bid is what I paid. Do beware though. Some hotels will charge a "resort" fee. This is in addition to the room rate and is not included in your bid. The resort fee is usually found in places like Orlando at the "swanky" places that know tourists don't read the fine print their mad dash to pay Disney $$$ for the honor of sweating while waiting in line for a ride that is 30+ years old.

The star rating does not mean a lot IMO, most of the genuinely nice hotels in Houston and most places for that matter are a lot more than 50 dollars a night.

Kiwicollection is a site that has some pretty good hotel reviews, although I do not think they have any special rates.
