So how much are you willing to pay for a tomato at the grocery store (Dove). $10.00, $25.00 (each). No one would buy them, they would rot in the store The stores would not buy them to sell since they could not cover the cost required to pay the labor cost to pick them.

Exactly why i'm a liberal Jdriller. I (and you, and IB Hankering, and Cuteoldguy, and captainmidnight, and Marshall), we all benefit financially from people making meager wages. And your comment is proof. So you won't hear me whining when those same people benefit financially from my paying taxes.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that we all benefit financially from the existence of poor people even more than poor people benefit financially from our paying taxes.

HINT: And there are a multitude of agricultural and industrial jobs among those "million possible" jobs . . . not just one.

P.S. Never worked for McDonalds, Burger King, etc., and never worked for Walmart, Kmart, etc. I often worked for men like Jackie S. and Giz - successful entrepreneurs who ran small businesses and who hired other people to work for them - while in high school and college.

Not everybody can work at the burger joints. Take away the state support to sit on your ass, and more people will do the necessary, menial work. But until you remove the state support that encourages people not to work, you'll never know what the real market rate for labor is.

Doove is arguing, and he may correct me if I'm wrong, the same thing I have said. Illegal immigrants are doing jobs that Americans won't do at that wage level. Increase the wages and more Americans will do the work. That is a fact. It is clear that the employers of illegal aliens are doing so because they can hire them at a wage that is below equilibrium wages for that activity. It distorts the market, so in actuality, hiring illegals is anti-capitalistic for that reason. Remove the illegals, and employers will have to pay the equilibrium wage.

If that is what Doove meant, he is correct. If he meant something else, he's an idiot.
