Default A/visiting the Houston Zoo

Has anyone visited the zoo during the winter months?

I'm going to start visiting Houston once a month, for personal and business reasons, come hell or high water and I've wanted to visit the zoo for a very long time.

They have an animal there that the Dallas Zoo, nor the Fort Worth one, has.

Appreciate your thoughts if anyone has any inside scoop.

Sincerely,
Elisabeth

They're open typical workday hours. But I wouldnt go if I were you. I personally don't cosign zoo's as my heart breaks for the animals. People taunt them to the point the poor animals want to attack and if they do they unfortunately kill the animals.
Try something more natural and gratifying that will last longer than a trip to the zoo. Such as this:

^ If this is not practical try the Houston Museum of Natural Science which has exhibits and arboretum's and planetariums that is the envy of all other 49 US States. Some of the multi-level and interactive exhibits are ranked the best in the world. There's so much to do it's like being at the Lourve in Paris. The zoo pales in comparison.

Although in decades past, zoos have had a super bad reputation, there are good things associated with zoos as well. Perhaps that's a conversation for another time.

Houston is a cultural mecca and I'm looking forward to starting to visit there regularly, which I need to start doing for work and personal reasons.

Regardless of personal opinions concerning zoos, and I'm not a huge zoo fan myself, there are a few things that I wish to do in my gentle old age and one is seeing a capybara in real life.

They're just large rats/guinea pigs, for the most part, but I've always wanted to see one up close.

Thanks for the other suggestions, though. Looking forward to visiting museums and other sites in town. I like doing stuff like that.

Sincerely,
Elisabeth

Yes I have and its not crowded if you visit after 3 or 4 PM most days during the week. You tend to get a lot of school kids early in the day but that clears out after lunch.

Some of the Savannah animals are not very active but the big cats are when there is a chill in the air. Plenty of warm places to walk inside and chase off a chill.

Museum of Fine Art one is always a great place to visit.

The Museum of Natural History has wine and cocktail mixers at night alone with tours. The Butterfly House is always a great place find a place to sit and enjoy and its warm and humid all the time in there.

Enjoy your time here.

Regards,

SH

The Houston Zoo is a really good zoo. There are a number of indoor exhibits. It's a good and fun place to go. Plus you have the museums next to it as well as Hermann Park. Don't let the Negative Nancy's influence you. Go, have fun. You'll enjoy yourself.

I don't think it would be a good idea for you. I can understand you would want to get in where you fit in ( they have wide turnstiles you can probably squeeze through ) but you could cause a panic....WHEN PEOPLE SEE YOU THEY MAY FEE

Have you seen me? No one, and I mean no one, could mistake me for an orangutan. I'm a big female and make no excuses for it plus, I'm not for everyone. Always have been painfully obvious about my shortcomings and so stop being rude.

I'm big, blond and very pleasant company.

An aside: How old are you? Your handle is even more infantile, with the capitalization (must be a penis thing), than your postings.

How pathetically sad.

Oh well ... next!

Thank you, others, for the positive input. Houston has some wonderful places to visit and looking forward to getting a better feel for the city.

Thank you so much for your input! I'd love to see a butterfly house again. Visited one a very long time ago in Costa Rica. It was lovely and would like seeing how they're breeded again.

Oh, I won't. I've been to Houston several times but it's been years and even when staying in downtown, I've missed seeing the museums.

One of the main reasons to visit this year is to spend some time in the museum/arts area. Again, thanks for all for the advice!!!

Always,
Elisabeth

Come on dude. Be better than that. Don't be a child. The lady is only asking about the zoo... if she is not your type, that's cool. There is no need to act like a 3rd grade dipshit kid with the insults regarding her inquiry.

I used to really like zoos until I went on an African safari last summer and saw animals in their natural habitat. Because of that incredible experience, I will probably never go to a zoo again. That experience really fucked zoos up for me and probably for my kids going forward... I've always liked going to zoos though. I just won't be able to enjoy looking at the caged animals ever again the same way.

If you’re a fan of the cold blooded variety like myself, the indoor reptile exhibit is worth checking out.....

I would suggest the Butterfly Center also. I have always wanted to do a photo shoot there. Its in the area of the zoo. The whole area is so nice. Bring some comfy shoes and explore. Enjoy your trip.
