Very sad to see one of Americas best pass on.

It has always amazed me how we as a country have always had the right person at the right time at the right place to make our history.

Captain Sully also comes to mind as an example of what I'm talking about.

RIP....Bear.

I was surprised to learn that he had grown up in Iran and his father was instrumental in setting up the Shah's secret police.

"As far as Saddam Hussein being a great military strategist, he is neither a strategist, nor is he schooled in the operational arts, nor is he a tactician, nor is he a general, nor is he a soldier. Other than that, he's a great military man, I want you to know that."

"..I gotta tell yeah. No matter how eloquent the orator.
No matter how prolific the poet. No matter how lyrical the songwriter.
No words can ever capture the emotions that goes through a person's heart -- -- And here's the National Anthem. And -- the American flag.
Representing a country that he is gladly and proudly served the last 35 years.

All I can say.. it's one last time.

It's a great day to be a soldier. It's a great day to be an American."

Another true American hero gone, but certainly not forgotten. He would have made a great president..

RIP, General Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf.

"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion." - Gen H Norman Schwartzkopf.

Another piece of trivia: Schwartzkopf's father was one of the chief investigators of the Lindbergh kidnapping.

Default R.I.P., General Schwartzkopf!

I'll never forget the impressive video segments of Schwartzkopf's interviews and briefings during the period immediately prior to the ground campaign phase of the 1991 Iraq War. (And afterward, for that matter.) Now that was a man who inspired confidence!

R.I.P., General!

Yeah, but there was one slight problem.

Schwartzkopf was a strong, competent leader who was interested neither in dispensing nor tolerating so much as a whiff of bullshit.

How would he have been able to make it through our ridiculous dog-and-pony show primary system, let alone a general election?

That is EXACTLY what we need, someone strong, and competant, and he was that and so much more. As far as the dog, and, pony show primary system, he would have wasted ALL OF THEM. His no bullshit, or as he coined the phrase " bovine scatology", way of doing things would have easily won over the american public

Default Do Americans Finally Realize that we Need a Strong, Competent, "No B.S." Leader?

I certainly agree with you that we need a strong, competent leader. Perhaps more and more Americans are finally beginning to realize that after what we've gone through in recent years.

But if you're so sure that Schwartzkopf could have convincingly won over an electorate yearning for a "no B.S." leader, perhaps you can explain how the current occupant of the Oval Office easily won two elections!
