I like the Half Shell in Biloxi. They have good steaks and seafood. Mary Mahoney's is pretty good but I like the Half Shell better now.

There are two restaurants relatively close to you that were featured on TV on the food network:
Darwell's - Southern comfort food (gumbo, etouffee, creole style, etc) live music on some nights
The Shed - BBQ (blues/juke joint type place. Rustic setting) events and music at night also.
Muddy Waters is also a good BBQ and blues place with $0.50 cent wings and $5.00 pitchers on Wednesday nights with live music (tonight) They were not featured on the food network but is still a popular place.
Shaggys, the reef, and Baja beach are good quick stops. They take delivered food off of Sysco trucks and actually make it taste really good with good presentation.
Mellow mushroom is not far from you.
Fine dining suggestions would be The Chimneys (awesome Sunday brunch), Salute (excellent eggplant Parmesan and Italian), Ruth's Chris (steaks, duh), and Mary Mahoney's (Lobster Georgio is my ATF)

the salute' Italian restaurant in Gulfport
"32" atop the IP casino has truly PRIME meats and the bone-in Filet mignon is incredible and additionally the new 850 in the foyer of the casino (just opened in the past 6 months - unusual wine tasting machine and you can order the Prime meat cuts in this lounge that is the same meats from the top floor 32 restaurant cuts.

Baton Rouge is about 2 1/2 hours away from Biloxi Gulf Coast.
The shed has really good ribs, as mentioned by Adaline.
Also, great oysters at half shell in Biloxi.
Yummy beignets and coffee at Le Beignet Cafe.
