Default Up In The Air - an addiction to travel

It's an interesting way of life, being on the road, living out of airports.

You can spot the ones who don't travel as a way of life, but just do so to get somewhere. There's always the sense that their feathers are ruffled.

Do it enough, and you learn to submit to the whims of fate. There are still times when delays, cancellations, lost reservations will get under your skin, but generally you've accepted that Murphy is your constant traveling companion.

I find it equally interesting to meet with people other Jet Set travelers, sitting at the bars, working away in the lounges. The stories you share, the eager exchanges of great places to eat, awesome restaurants, and insider local info. If feels very much like meeting "Citizens of the World".

As exciting as the destinations are, and as grueling as it an be at times, the act of travel is in itself something I enjoy. Taking a moment to peak into the people you casual brush by, the promise of discovery, the world always changing around you, the moments of thoughtful solitude.

I'm definitely addicted to it to some degree.

I Have to tell you again. I Love the way your mind works, and the ease you have in expressing your thoughts. If I never get the chance to meet you, it's a pleasure reading your notes. Thanks for sharing.

Lauren I thought I was the only crazy one. I love airports! I bartended at the Atlanta airport for about six years and St Louis for two. I loved every minute of it. I don't think a college degree could come close to what I learned serving passengers.

If I could give one bit of advise, once your feet hit the doors of the airport you are out of control of pretty much everything. Go with the flow and things will go much more smoothly.

As a child, I travelled with my father all around the globe, and the fascination of airports and travel stayed with me into my adult life; I too travel the globe, yet by myself. I love walking through concourses, picking out people at random, wondering what their stories are; flight delays are sometimes looked forward to; to sit and strike up a conversation with someone you may never see again, a quick glimpse into each other lives and then you move on......it can be quite euphoric........

The last 4 years I have been traveling internationally quite a bit.... I absolutely love people watching- Airports are the best place to do so. Particularly Amsterdam's Schipol... Have met some interesting people through the years and ACTUALLY hooked up with a girl from Toronto (nice huh Lauren?) who also missed her international connection in Houston... Out of all the times I had wished for even a decent looking woman to be seated next to me- I shag the girl on the 2nd occasion. 9/10 it is a FAT nasty slob that gets parked next to me... Anyway I thought I would share that tid bit... She was a good egg- Not all Canucks are annoying! :-)
