Default Backpage Bill aka SESTA/FOSTA

For those of you who haven't gone dark yet over this or aren't aware. Backpage is most likely dead. I've already seen at least one SD type site go dark possibly out of fear related to this bill. This bill will only serve to push the worst of BP to the dark web. Time to do some spring cleaning ladies and gents as a precautionary measure. As I'm sure here among others are in discussions right now with their legal teams.

https://www.azcentral.com/story/news...ain/446823002/

Wonder how LE is going to conduct stings without BP? Time to be extra careful about any time you meet someone new.

No chick is hot enough for silver bracelets that connect at the wrist.

I haven't read the details, but it sure appears they want to shut most sites down. I also think this could have chilling ramifications for other Internet activities, and they may shut blogs and social media sites down as well. Maybe someone posts something for sale that is stolen, and they will prosecute the website it was listed on.

Yes, it is very broadly written and I believe it will be challenged in court. But the outcome will end up either pissing one side off or leave it as is somehow.

Time will tell.

Hopefully, everyone has been keeping an old school black book just in case.

It may also mean that sites like this one may no longer be able to have ads in it or reviews as they all indicate some sort of exchange of value for sexual acts.

Yep all depends on what each sites legal team determines.

Feds are everywhere except for the helicopters following paranoid hobbyists across the river and flying dangerously low along Broadway in Council Bluffs.

In all seriousness though, stay safe.

Plus do you really think that 2 seasons of CSI:Cyber were really written from whatever the writing team pulled out of their posteriors?

Yes, the plot lines were highly dramatized and the ability of many technologies were highly overstated, but there were some grains of truth in there.

You all are conflating the deep web with the dark web; the former is basically the nuts and bolts of the internet whereas the latter is the untraceable, seedier parts of the net. I'd imagine this will end up targeting the bigger operations with more being taken down over time. Similar to filesharing sites, I think resiliency and intelligence as it relates to hosting will keep many sites afloat. People, if you aren't somewhat anonymous at this point you need to be. If you don't have a vpn, download TOR and access hobby sites from there.

As for CSI and accuracy...Big Brother has a lot of capabilities and monitors all. Whether they're capable of using that information intelligently is still up in the air. Look at Parkland and other public events where they've had access to pertinent information but haven't been able to utilize it. I think this issue will largely depend on how Net Neutrality ends up playing out over time. If you can't impact the end user you're not going to impact the system.

Backpage is a cockroach and will likely be the last website to die. Cityvibe is already gone. It's been down since yesterday afternoon. Maybe they are moving their servers or maybe they just disappeared into the wind, who knows.

We have anywhere from 90 days to January 2019 before shit really hits the fan. Is Eccie hosted offshore? I have yet to hear from any moderators or admins about the future of this website.

As for my own plans, I have already started working on a new website. It will strictly be vanilla only and have zero hints at being sex worker related. I think this is going to be the future of sex work, online at least. A lot of escorts are going to be forced onto the streets, which is a shame because that means more women are going to be put in deadly situations.

Right now we have the ability to screen our clients and check with blacklist databases to see who is safe and who isn't, but with FOSTA/SESTA blacklists are going to be a punishable offense with a risk of jail time. This is censorship at its worst.

Anyway, with the way things are going, I will be extremely surprised if reviews continue to be a thing. In the interest of discretion I stopped allowing them a while ago and now I'm glad I did.

I believe Eccie went off shore after the state of Texas tried to take them down a few to several years ago.

Cityvibe is dead from what I've gathered. Reddit has shit down several subreddits without looking at the content that was primarily sex worker rights and discussions about the pros and cons of decriminalizing the hobby. At least one sugar daddy site has went dark.

Backpage will go down as they are being specifically targeted just like Craiglists Adult section was several years ago. The same Congress-critter that targeted Craigslist was the one who went after BP via committee hearings and forced BP to remove their adult section last year. Especially after encouraging most pay processing sites and sources of pay to go dark on BP. BP will last about as long as it takes for the John President to sign the bill that enforces penalties that are surely unconstitutional.

It will be challenged constitutionally as DOJ has already said it was unconstitutional as written.

Sites will continue going down as challenges go through the courts and 2019 may not make a difference as both sides buy into the "human trafficking" narrative being pushed by agenda driven organizations being fed questionable statistics by sources who refuse to release their methodology or sources for independent peer review. And some of that is right in our backyard *cough*Creighton*cough*.

Many providers have already converted or began converting their site into "modeling" or other legal and vanilla appearing site subjects. Many fetishes and in home stripping are legal as well. Just gotta research state laws.

And we are back to square one where this all began back in the 90s when the NIMBYs started whining about LE pushing SWs into their neighborhoods as downtown strolls/tracks saw increased patrols to make downtown "family friendly" again. As usual when it comes to LE they went above and beyond by going after bath houses, strip clubs, porn shops, porn theaters, AMPs, underground brothels, etc. Which in turn caused LE to lose their own CIs and made it harder for LE to keep track of their parolees/probationers. Des Moines and Omaha are both cities that make for research that shows where LE went overboard in pushing the hobby underground.

Yep, legal (as of now) censorship and infringement of First Amendment rights because only 2 Senators had the stones to oppose this unconstitutional bill that serves to limit free speech that the Westboro Baptist and pro-life (the domestic terrorism fringe) crowd gets to maintain.

Reviews are a thing of the past and will be severely limited to the point of yes/no and fun or no fun. At least very soon that will be the case. I believe some recent reviews have had the ROS pulled and left blank while "pending approval".

Yeah, some level of anonymity is key as of right now.

I'm aware of the capabilities, but many technologies were severely overstated in that show.

The intelligence/exchange of information cog is mainly due to lack of communication among law enforcement as they all want to be able to take credit at their level instead of work together like they should. If they did that they might actually find real human trafficking instead of otherwise consenting adults while justifying the existence of their task forces.

Net neutrality does play a part as that might put registering outside of the US and locating servers that store data offshore into play legally. Which will certainly send a chill throughout the hobby when LE can go after sites with locations outside the US.

Which will also expand to offshore gambling and betting sites as the lack of net neutrality is defined beyond ISPs being able to price their services for specific areas of the Internet such as social media or streaming for example.

The effects have yet to be known, but it will be challenged on constitutional grounds in the court system soon. How long it takes to be decided is a whole other rabbit hole that gets far too deep into the political side of the discussion for the Coed Forum.

Frank, that post should be stickied on the main boards. Great summary.

I really would have thought Reddit would have allowed this to remain in place given their history with illegal Reddits and Subreddits: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hookers/. Apparently not...which is pretty crazy considering half of Reddit is used for illegal activities (read: streaming services, illegal drug whereabouts online, pointers for suicide attempts, etc.). This is starting to sink in for me that the times they are a changin'. I wonder how this will affect services like Seeking Arrangements.
