How Many Of You Are Old Enough To Remember Watergate.
In short, it involved an incident that happended before President Nixon was re-elected. The Administartion covered up the entire affair, and the shit did not hit the fan untill well into the 2d term.
But two enterprising reporters would not let it go, and finally it took hold. The entire fiasco ended with the resignation of a President over not what actually happenned in the initial act, but all of the lying and cover up that followed.
This entire Lybian mess has the possibility of turning into another watergate. The big difference is, Nixon had the press corps against him, and President Obama has it in his back pocket.
But the internet and round the clock new channels did not exist in the early 70's.
Is there a Woodward and Bernstein lurking out there that will not let go.
Anybody that thinks General Patreaus resigned because of an affair are niave. Hillary has already said she is quitting. The President has a History of throwing people under the bus, but Patreaus is a War Hero, and Hillary is, first and formost, Mrs Bill Clinton. Try throwing her under the bus, and watch the true rock star of politics turn on you in a second.
History just might be getting ready to be repeated. They never learn. The lies and coverups are always worse than the initial event.
"What did the President know, and when did he know it". That sword can cut both ways.

god am I sick of this fucking witch hunt.
And yes, I remember Watergate very well. It was a deliberate, premeditated, well planned plot to fix an election by all means necessary.
all of you folks who compare that to the Benghazi attack are the naive ones.
Give it a fucking rest, will ya?

Fixing the election? He was running against McGovern, fer Chrissakes! He didn't need to fix the election.
McGovern was a great man, and would probably been a pretty good President, but he was never going to win that election.
Benghazi will prove to be far worse than Watergate, followed closely by Fast and Furious.

YR, Watergate was described as a "second rate burglary". Look what it turned into because of coverups, and lying.
Get on CNN right now as I am writing this. The shit is getting ready to hit the fan.

Look what they uncovered, Jackie.
Piers Morgan replay is on now. Whats your point? That CNNs gonna indict the president the week of his reelection? You're probably a tad on the wrong side of that. don't you know the MSM serves the other side?
Puh-lease!
They did release the timeline of the attack ... Believe it or not.
Study it, touch it, tear it apart. Do what you will but unless otherwise convinced I'm ready to put this terrorist attack in the file with the others... At least the others that DIDN'T take place on American soil.

You certainly have a valid point. This incident could certainly have similar reprucusions as Watergate.

I credit Nixon with getting us to the moon. Same as people credit Obama for killing Osama. Nixon also didn't arrest reporters (movie makers) and blame them or have them thrown in jail for expressing their views. Or blame them for the problem. As much as he may have hated the 1st ammendment, he couldn't touch it.
And yes, YR, God bless Amerigo!

Ditto. Especially the part about throwing the 1st Amendment under the bus - from the most 'transparent administration in history.'

Nixon resigned just over a year and a half into his second term (Aug 9th 1974). On Mar. 1st, 1974 (a year and a month), a grand jury indicted Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell, Colson, Strachan, Mardian and Parkinson. Nixon was secretly named as an unindicted co-conspirator by the same grand jury at the same time.
But two enterprising reporters would not let it go, and finally it took hold. The entire fiasco ended with the resignation of a President over not what actually happenned in the initial act, but all of the lying and cover up that followed.
This entire Lybian mess has the possibility of turning into another watergate. If crimes were committed. All are considered innocent until proven guilty. The big difference is, Nixon had the press corps against him, and President Obama has it in his back pocket. The big difference is Nixon was guilty and at this point there are no charges, current or on the horizon, against President Obama
But the internet and round the clock new channels did not exist in the early 70's.

Almost certainly. But there has to be a crime to uncover. You being certain there is means nothing.
Anybody that thinks General Patreaus resigned because of an affair are niave. How naïve is someone who thinks a war hero would resign to cover up a crime? That’s right. Very, very, very naïve. Hillary has already said she is quitting. The President has a History of throwing people under the bus, but Patreaus is a War Hero, and Hillary is, first and formost, Mrs Bill Clinton. Try throwing her under the bus, and watch the true rock star of politics turn on you in a second.

Watergate resulted in 69 government officials being charged, 48 found guilty and the trial, conviction, and incarceration of 43 people. Charges included obstruction of justice, perjury, burglary, conspiracy, etc.
Somehow I think this is less, much less if anything at all.
Why don’t we wait and see what happens.
