Default Hyundai Equus

So you can buy whatever you want in terms of vehicles, yet you choose the Equus? Why do you do it?

I've noticed a lot of afluents driving this vehicle. What is it about this vehicle that makes you happy?

E.g. the Nissan gtr has been known as the Ferrari killer in terms of performance but at the end of the day a Ferrari is a chick magnet. Why the Equus over the established Luxe brands?

Many well off people could care less about flaunting their wealth. I learned many years ago to never judge a man by the car they drive. Your post made me think of an old book called "The Millionaire Next Door" by Thomas J. Stanley.

Thanks for the feedback, yet not the answer I was looking for. I read the book you referenced back in 2006 or 07. Also read rich dad poor dad same concepts.

The Equus is a nice car I've often thought about getting one used but couldn't get past the hyundai association. Personally I think the known Luxe brands are cutting corners to either compete in different markets or because they think people will pay a premium for their brand.

I'm looking for feedback from someone that has one or has had one.

I was seriously considering one of these a couple of years when I go t a new(er) car. At the end of the I didn't like the way it drove. Nothing to do with it being a Hyundai, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I liked it. But I found it too soft, too much like a yank tank. I much preferred the Genesis, and even then they say the 3.8 was better to drive than the 4.5, more responsive. I ended up with another Acura, although I couldn't find a nice one in the model i wanted.

Thanks for the feedback! That's what I'm looking for I've driven(rented) many cars and hate their lack of agility. I haven't driven the Equus but fell in lust with the 07 sonata. It drove like an audi. Would rent it all the time while traveling for work because it handled so good.

But GoAhead... Are you saying the Equus drives like a boat? Crappy response time?

I rented a Genesis in Hawaii a couple of years ago...I got in late...and I thought Hertz cheaped me out and gave me what was left...then...It was one of the nicest driving cars I have driven...thought the Equss would be a step up...haven't driven one...but sounds like not.

Hyundai is aware of this problem and is actively re-branding their luxury vehicles as a result.
What was previously called the Hyundai Equus is now the Genesis G90. The body stye has completely changed as well. I still don't think it's worth the 70k sticker price though.

Seriously a certified used Mercedes AMG would be a better buy than an Equus.

Three problems with that sentence: certified, used and AMG.

Actually, on second thought the thing that strikes my funny bone the most about that sentence is "certified". Which just means it passed a checklist of things they normally look for. AMG just like the M's (Bmw), or R (Audi) just means it's factory designed for racing.

A more appropriate comparison would be the Lexus LS series. Same style designed for comfort and to go slow (most of the time). Roughly the same price range. Although, by genes it's still a Toyota it carries the Lexus badge.

Probably the best response on the topic thus far, thanks for the feedback.
