Default U.S. Treasury's Mnuchin defies House subpoena for Trump's tax returns

yeah .. this is "Shocking" isn't it?

U.S. Treasury's Mnuchin defies House subpoena for Trump's tax returns

https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-treasur...201203581.html

Reuters 3 hours ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Friday that he would not meet a congressional demand for six years of President Donald Trump's tax returns, all but guaranteeing a federal court battle with Congress over the records.

"We are unable to provide the requested information," Mnuchin said in a letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, who subpoenaed Trump's individual and business returns a week ago and set a 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT) Friday deadline for their delivery.

Mnuchin reiterated his contention that Neal's panel lacks a legitimate legislative purpose for obtaining the tax returns, a claim Democrats reject.

(Reporting by David Morgan; Editing by Richard Chang)

"We are unable to provide the requested information," Mnuchin said.

Translation ... "We will NOT provide the requested information .. without a valid legal reason"

Just like GoNadler requesting Grand Jury testimony from Barr. It ain’t happening. The Dems seem to be losing steam on these nefarious requests. They know the real story is coming soon and dwarf their bogus investigations.

I'm looking forward to the expedited hearings on the matter.

And an upholding of the decision of the Steward of Our Privacy.

I don't necessarily think Trump is legally bound to cough up his returns, but it is obvious to me that he is concerned about what could be revealed. he fed us the bullshit during the 2016 campaign about being "under audit", his legal team advised against releasing them. he doesn't even bother with that phony line anymore, because he knows Republicans have his back.

I'm tired of both parties, and their investigation sprees. get off your ass and legislate. come together on a infrastructure bill.. fix immigration.

Jefferson said we needed an overhaul every 20 years, or so.. we are a good 200 years overdue.

The law doesn't give Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin any legal basis for denying the request. It's not up to him to determine the legislative purpose behind the request. He's just has to cough up the materials requested. The request may be politically motivated but the Treasury secretary doesn't get to decide what he will provide and what he won't.

That's for the court to decide. Not you or Nadler.

Ya thinck?? of course it's politically motivated. see below concerning your contention Congress has "absolute power" to see tax returns for no valid reason ..

oh and while i'm at it .. according to Pissloser (Pelosi) we don't have separate but equal branches of Government. Hmm .. not what i read in junior high civics. is she reading Saul Alinsky's alt version?

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pelosi-claims-congress-is-a-superior-branch-of-government

Pelosi claims Congress is a 'superior branch' of government, as clash with White House intensifies

now don't scream "It's FOX .. it's FAKE NEWS!" because i can find a dozen other sources stating she said that.

I'll even cite an article from a leftist who "agrees" with Pissloser .. for whatever that's worth?!!?

Pelosi claims Congress is a ‘superior branch’ of government. She’s right.

Well! I'd say that covers the "reason" issue yeah?

Wrong txdot.
Federal law prohibits the release of tax returns, IRC 6103.
And even though Federal law allows the congress to obtain material from Treasury, there's prior Federal court precedent on the legislative purpose concept, that Mnuchin can't violate either. My point being, he doesn't have a choice.

Thus, this will be a long delayed court issue that will go to supreme court. In that there does not appear to be any "actual" legislative purpose, this will be amusing to watch.

OMG am I agreeing with Waco?

Fuck 'em.

Pelosi is 2nd in line to the President. Let her submit for public scrutiny 10 years of income tax returns and the underlying documentation. Then I'll begin to listen to her requests. After she's through answering my questions about her taxes to my satisfaction.
