Someone called me last night with the same area code and prefix as me, saying I called them. My cell phone was locked in my truck, with no one in it at the time of the call

Default it's your HOBBY phone!!!!

Virtually all hobby phones are non-listed numbers (at least I hope yours are) so the fact of the matter is if you don't already have a number saved in your contact list, when a new number pops up

-- do not answer it.

-- if it is someone you want to know, they will 99 pct of the time either leave a voice mail or send a text

-- absent either of the above, you can google the unknown number and maybe get a clue. 800notes.com is a good place to archive scammers and spammers.

Assuming your hardware is secured (meaning locked when not in your pocket and/or secured and hidden away all other times) you have two options:

-- you may leave the phone locked but turned on, so messages and calls can be observed when you get back to it

-- you may turn the hardware OFF, but it will still accept texts and voice mails when you turn it back on.

There are way too many scammers just randomly dialing entire banks of phone numbers and when they get a live voice they are annotating that number as "live" so it can sold or shared with other dialing scammers and spammers.

If you have a phone or phone carrier that allows you to block numbers, do so and stymie the callers up front.

Happy Hobbying!

Default Good stuff ck!!

Many of these robo-callers have a device that makes YOUR number appear on the caller-ID. My elderly mother (88 years old) calls me and tells me "someone is using MY phone to make calls!!"... and "when I try to call them back, the number is always busy!!"...

sounds high-tech.. I miss the simple days of "do you have Prince Albert in a can"?

I’d have to politely disagree. As a rule, I never leave voicemail.

I've been getting a lot of calls like this lately. I do a little research and more often than not the owner of the number is recently deceased.

Obviously doing this kind of shit makes money for the people involved. Why would they do it otherwise. What really concerns me is how fucking stupid do you have to be to send money to the caller on the other end of the line

Do y'all remember the text to death app? Where you could literally spam a person's phone with the same text a thousand times. That was pretty funny to do when a person really pissed you off that you just couldn't stand.
